Description

The Researcher I or II will provide directed research technical assistance/laboratory support to achieve the objectives for theHascup Neuroscience Laboratories andto continue to advance theoverallresearch objectives. Thisprimary purposeoftheResearcher IIistohelpmaintaining all aspects oftheHascup Laboratories' rodent breeding colonies andto provide technical assistance and laboratory support in the areas ofaging, Alzheimer's disease and related disorders in rodent models using various behavioral testing, immunohistochemistry and various cellular and molecular techniques.

Administration: 0%

Teaching: 5%

Assist in training other lab members and collaborators

Research: 95%

Rodent Colony Maintenance

  • Rodent husbandry, genotyping, identifying, weaning, and treating
  • Maintaining online inventory and distribution to laboratory personnel
  • Conserving resources to keep within annual budgets
  • A point of contact for IACUC and laboratory personnel

Maintaining laboratory equipment

Provides support for other laboratory personnel, when needed

General laboratory upkeep and maintenance

  • Solution preparation, cleaning/coating MEAs, cleaning dishes, laundry, and autoclaving glassware and surgical instruments
  • Laboratory inventory and restocking of supplies
  • Maintaining quality control and good laboratory practices

Set-up and perform technical experiments and data collection.

  • Behavioral assays including novel object recognition, Morris water maze, y- maze, open field, grip strength
  • Insulin and glucose tolerance testing.
  • Rodent handling and dosing including oral, intraperitoneal, and subcutaneous
  • Tissue dissection and blood collection

Provides assistance with molecular and cellular experiments such as protein and RNA extraction/isolation, western blot, PCR, IHC, etc.

Procurement, including identifying best price for required products, ensuring order delivery, reconciling transactions, and updating budget spreadsheets.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Researcher I: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate biological field

Researcher II: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field with at least 2 years of relevant experience or Master's degree in an appropriate biological field
