Primary Purpose of the Organization:
Practicum Education is an integral component of social work education at FSU. The Practicum Education program is governed by the mission, goals, objectives, policies, and standards of the Council on Social Work Education ( CSWE), the accrediting body of schools of social work. Practicum Education is the signature pedagogy for social work education. It allows students to receive requisite instruction and socialization in developing professional competence to integrate and apply generalist and advanced-level social work practice knowledge, skills, and values. It is intended to allow students to exhibit mastery of the MSW program's goals and outcomes. The Director of Practicum Education leads the MSW Practicum Education Program in all facets.
Primary Purpose of the Position:
The School of Social Work at Fayetteville State University, North Carolina, invites nominations and applications for the MSW Practicum Education Director position. The Director is responsible for the overall administration of the School of Social Work graduate practicum education program. The position is an eleven-month full-time non-tenure track renewable position that reports to the Associate Dean. The academic rank will depend on the successful candidate's graduate education level.
The MSW Director of Practicum Education manages the MSW Practicum Education Program. The MSW Director of Practicum Education is responsible for providing curriculum and administrative leadership, course development, coordinating the efforts of the Practicum Team, supervising seminar instructors, and recruiting, securing, and developing graduate-level social work practicum placements in compliance with CSWE accreditation standards.

Other responsibilities include teaching two courses each semester which may primarily be in the certificate program. The Director will oversee the substance misuse courses and requirements for the substance misuse certificate, updating practicum education policies and procedures, analyzing student and practicum supervisor's evaluations, providing various practicum reports, managing the practicum education budget in consultation with the Associate Dean, and representing the program on appropriate committees appointed by the Associate Dean.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Master of Social Work degree from a CSWE accredited university.
  • Three years post master's social work practice experience.
  • Two years of prior supervisory and case management experience.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Experience with program development, administration, and evaluation.
  • Expertise in working with groups.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience as a community agency-based practicum instructor.
  • Proficient knowledge and skills in MS Microsoft Office, internet, email, computers, graphics, multimedia, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Ability to utilize Canvas and innovative technology in the classroom.
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Certified Addiction Specialist (LCAS)
  • Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) or Clinical Supervisor Intern (CSI)
