The Director of IT Quality Assurance provides strategic leadership for the organization's IT Quality Assurance function, defining the vision, direction, and standards that ensure the delivery of reliable, high-performance software products. This role oversees the design, implementation, and continuous refinement of testing frameworks, methodologies, and quality benchmarks. The Director guides the development and enhancement of software test plans, authors and evaluates testing standards and procedures, and ensures comprehensive documentation of test outcomes to support effective debugging and continuous product improvement. In partnership with Product Engineering leadership, the Director establishes and upholds delivery processes, technical standards, and performance goals across teams. Additionally, the role contributes to technical evaluations of programming languages, systems, and computational platforms, ensuring the seamless integration of software quality across scientific computation, data acquisition, and data processing environments.

The Director of IT Quality Assurance also sets a forward-looking vision for leveraging artificial intelligence to optimize resource allocation between Product Development and Quality Assurance functions, while reducing automated testing technical debt. This leader drives enterprise-wide adoption of quality assurance practices, champions standardized delivery methodologies, and directs the QA organization in measuring, improving, and sustaining high levels of operational excellence. Through continuous assessment and enhancement of quality processes, the Director ensures that QA capabilities evolve in alignment with organizational strategy and emerging technological advancements.



Your Impact

    Defines and drives enterprise testing strategy, partnering with architecture teams to implement frameworks that increase efficiency, quality, and consistency.
  • Champions Quality Assurance initiatives and presents strategic recommendations to Executive Management.
  • Leads onshore, nearshore, and offshore QA teams, ensuring optimal cost, capability, and performance across globally distributed staffing models.
  • Provides leadership across key Business Domains and Technology Areas-such as Guide Configurator, Oracle Fusion, and Oracle Warehousing-to identify opportunities for improvement and elevate quality practices.
  • Mentors team members in Quality Assurance methodologies, Business Domains, and specialized Technology Areas.
  • Ensures comprehensive testing coverage across assigned Business Domains and Technology Areas.
  • Communicates and promotes Quality Assurance standards, best practices, and innovations across the QA community.
  • Owns and reports Quality Assurance metrics for the enterprise, providing domain-specific and cross-functional insights to leadership, highlighting successes and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborates with IT teams to plan, design, and execute software testing for applications and development initiatives.
  • Partners with development leadership and product owners to refine test scenarios and acceptance criteria as part of Shift-Left QA practices.
  • Identifies, documents, prioritizes, and reports software defects and issues.
  • Works closely with senior QA engineers, software developers, and business systems analysts to resolve issues discovered during testing.
  • Participates in system and application design discussions to advocate for quality, maintainability, and functional integrity.
  • Supports the development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develops, updates, and executes software test plans across manual and automated testing.
  • Maintains detailed test result documentation to support debugging and continuous improvement.
  • Reviews product design documentation to ensure requirements are correct, unambiguous, and verifiable.
  • Collaborates with product development to evaluate system interfaces, operational workflows, acceptance criteria, and performance requirements.
  • Participates in and supports procedures ensuring the quality of software features and releases.
  • Leads the creation of test data, testing procedures, and validation approaches to ensure conformance with organizational standards and end-user needs.
  • Provides clear progress reporting and issue-resolution updates to management.
  • Leads the assessment, estimation, and planning of test efforts required to support software development initiatives.
  • Applies practical expertise across multiple testing methodologies, including functional (system integration), security/vulnerability, performance/load/stress, compliance/accessibility, regression, and user acceptance testing.
  • Reports directly to the Vice President of Information Technology.
  • Gains exposure to highly complex tasks and advanced quality engineering concepts.
  • Conducts compatibility and integration tests with vendor-provided applications.
  • Works within project teams to develop test plans, test design specifications, and test cases across various testing types.
  • Prepares and manages automated and manual test schedules to support Hanger's testing activities.
  • Supports CI/CD pipeline practices utilizing Azure DevOps.
  • Participates in Agile ceremonies and contributes to sprint planning, grooming, and retrospectives.
  • Facilitates the preparation, configuration, and maintenance of test environments.
  • Solicits and incorporates feedback from project teams to enhance the quality of testing artifacts.
  • Reports testing risks-both automation and manual-along with recommended mitigation strategies to Hanger leadership.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Typically requires a minimum of 8+ years of related professional experience; postgraduate coursework is often expected at this level.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience supporting large-scale systems projects, including at least 5 years of advanced automation testing experience using commercial or open-source testing tools.
  • Must have, or be eligible to obtain, a valid driver's license and driving record within the standards outlined within Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures.
