Position Summary

The Department of Neurology at Columbia University is seeking a Physical Therapist (PT) to join the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center to care for adults and children with cerebral palsy (CP) and related conditions in our dynamic and innovative academic clinical program. Our multidisciplinary program offers collaborative practice opportunities to join a robust ambulatory care practice and participate in the development of new clinical services.

The Physical Therapist will be an integral member of our multidisciplinary team, providing clinical care to pediatric and adult patients with cerebral palsy and related neuromuscular conditions, while also supporting the expansion of research and educational initiatives.

Responsibilities



  • Provide clinical assessments and treatment for pediatric and adult patients with CP and related neuromuscular conditions.
  • Conduct developmental and motor assessments for children with delays and functional limitations, independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Perform evaluations for adults with CP to assess functional abilities, mobility, strength, gait and the impact of chronic conditions on daily activities.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Treat CP related conditions including musculoskeletal and neuromuscular disorders, as well as pre- and post-surgical rehabilitation needs.
  • Educate and empower patients and caregivers with home-based strategies.
  • Participate in and support research related to neuromotor conditions.
  • Collaborate closely with multiple medical specialties within the Weinberg Family Cerebral Palsy Center, including orthopedics, neurology, rehabilitation medicine, and mental health.
  • Participate in and present at CP academic and clinical meetings, including monthly multidisciplinary case conferences.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of educational programming for healthcare professionals and families.
  • Employ national practice guidelines for practice performance improvement.
  • Complete timely and accurate clinical documentation for medical records and insurance purposes.
  • Part-time, on-site position.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience required. Requires 3 years related experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Terminal degree preferred (DPT, PhD)
  • Able to meet New York-Presbyterian Hospital credentialing requirements


Other Requirements



  • Contact with patients and/or research subjects.
  • Ability to work in teams with flexibility and a positive attitude.
  • Computer skills are required including proficiency with MS-Word, MS-Excel, Outlook, and MS-Powerpoint.
  • Current Physical Therapy License in New York State
