Compensation:

We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The salary range for this position is $78,644.00 to $83,172.60 and is commensurate with experience.

Position Description: The Grant Accountant (GCA) is responsible for the accounting and financial management of SOME's institutional funding portfolio, with a primary focus on government awards, grants, and contracts. The GCA manages all aspects of the invoicing process, ensuring timely and accurate submissions that comply with grantor guidelines and SOME's standard operating procedures.

This role also monitors grant expenditures and spend-down activity, generating financial and related reports as assigned. In addition, the GCA provides ongoing support to the Grants and Contracts Manager to ensure effective financial oversight and compliance across the grants and contracts portfolio.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (Full-Time; 40 hours per week); This position is 100% remote, but must be able to work in the office when requested.

Required: Bachelor's Degree in accounting and a minimum of 5 years of job-related experience. Required License/Certification: N/A

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Expert knowledge of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to interpret and fulfill complex grantor funding requirements, submission protocols, and invoicing procedures with minimal errors
  • Highly skilled in the use of accounting software
  • Strong critical thinking skills with proactive problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience with government grant platforms, user portals, and related systems
  • Effective communicator with the ability to collaborate with program, finance, and departmental colleagues, as well as government, corporate, and foundation representatives, both orally and in writing
  • Highly organized with a meticulous attention to detail and documentation
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to consistently meet deadlines with accuracy while adhering to donor requirements and SOME procedures
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel


Expected Contributions: Grant and Contract Accounting



  • Review and monitor institutional giving portfolio grant finances and transactions to ensure compliance with private, local, state, and federal funding requirements, including billing and collections, journal entries, and financial grant reporting. Prepare financial reports for granting authorities as required
  • Prepare budget proposals and financial components for grant applications
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional giving financial functions
  • Maintain up-to-date financial tracking tools to monitor government, foundation, and corporate awards
  • Oversee the monthly invoicing process, including creating, reviewing, and submitting invoices; providing quality assurance and quality control; and ensuring deadlines and submission requirements are met
  • Complete grant invoicing and institutional financial reporting accurately and on schedule to support the timely drawdown of funds.
  • Facilitate meetings related to grant financial management, including developing agendas, documenting progress and agreements, briefing supervisors and stakeholders as needed, and completing follow-up actions
  • Ensure compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Coordinate with colleagues, vendors, partners, and donors to collect accurate financial information, analyze data, and prepare and submit reports, invoices, and related documentation on time
  • Support grant financial lifecycle activities, including award activation, close-out, and renewal processes
  • Perform recurring financial activities related to grants and respond to ad hoc donor requests as needed
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the supervisor or team lead
  • Document and communicate with key stakeholders to ensure donor requirements are met, and program teams are able to appropriately utilize and spend down awarded funds


Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods. Must be able to travel to events and meetings off-site.
