What to Expect
The Passive Safety Crash Test Team at Tesla is dedicated to executing, analyzing, and reporting on crash tests within strict program timelines. This role focuses on vehicle development, regulatory certification, and consumer protection crash testing. As a Crash Test Technician, you will work within a multidisciplinary team of test engineers and engineering technicians specializing in vehicle & mechanical systems, instrumentation & ATD (anthropomorphic test devices, or crash test dummies), and imaging, ensuring high-quality test execution and data collection to support Tesla's mission of advancing vehicle safety.
What You'll Do
- Prepare vehicles and components for crash testing, execute tests, and perform teardown and analysis of results
- Collaborate in a team environment to conduct vehicle- and component-level crash tests per written or oral requests and procedures, ensuring high quality and repeatability
- Retrofit and rebuild test vehicles to specified configurations
- Install and remove test fixtures, lab equipment, and ballast weights as required
- Perform pre- and post-test measurements on vehicles and ATDs using a coordinate measurement machine (CMM)
- Deploy sensors, operate data acquisition systems, and manage still and high-speed cameras to capture test data
- Document test setups, incidents, and findings during preparation and execution
What You'll Bring
- Proven ability to diagnose, repair, and replace components on passenger vehicles (Tesla experience preferred)
- Experience setting up and operating data acquisition systems and peripherals such as accelerometers, pressure sensors, strain gauges, and tape switches
- Proficiency with high-speed cameras, lighting, and photo/video equipment for onboard and offboard vehicle applications
- Skilled in using hand and power tools and shop equipment like forklifts, pallet jacks, floor jacks, and Stringo, with fabrication and machine shop skills as a plus
- Physical capability to lift over 50 lbs. and work in confined vehicle spaces
- Strong computer skills for diagnostics, reporting, and communication using Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Tesla-specific tools
- Associate Degree in Engineering, Automotive Technology, or OEM Test Technician training, or equivalent experience

Expected Compensation
$24.40 - $56.40/hour + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
