RTI-HS is seeking an experienced medical writer to join our growing Medical Communications and Strategy team-and you might be just the right person!

A day in the life of a medical writer at RTI-HS can include drafting publications (e.g., manuscripts, abstracts, posters) and other medical communications in collaboration with colleagues and clients, leading team meetings, overseeing submissions to journals and conferences, working with RTI-HS editors and creative services to produce beautiful, polished deliverables, and so much more! Our team plays a pivotal role in communication between internal colleagues, external stakeholders, journals, and reviewers. Strong project management and collaboration skills are essential.


What You'll Do

Your responsibilities will include butnot be limited to:

  • Collaborate closely with internal and external authors and stakeholders to develop publication plans and medical communications, with a primary focus on publications (e.g., manuscripts, abstracts, and posters)
  • Assume project ownership by providing project management support from initiation to publication, including the development of project proposals, managing communications among stakeholders, overseeing clients' compliance processes, and navigating internal quality review processes
  • Lead meetings confidently, particularly when addressing challenging questions
  • Evaluate and summarize data from study results, documentation, and the literature
  • Develop publications in accordance with company style and journal/conference guidelines
  • Uphold industry publication standards, including ICMJE recommendations and GPP practices
  • Effectively manage multiple project timelines, navigate competing priorities, and cultivate strong client relationships

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree in the Sciences, English, or Communications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in writing medical or scientific publications
  • Strong communication skills, both written and interpersonal, that includes:
    • Ability to transform complex scientific data into a narrative storyline for publication
    • A dynamic writing style, with an ability to tailor content to a specific audience
    • Confidence with presenting at meetings
    • Ease with navigating feedback from authors and reviewers
    • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships internally and develop client relationships across projects
    • Ability tomotivate a diverse group of stakeholders by adapting to various personalities and needs
    • Strong prioritization skills and the ability to make strategic decisions when faced with competing demands.
    • Demonstrated ability to meet urgent deadlines while maintaining flexibility in the face of changing timelines.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred:

  • Experience working in a medical communications agency or with scientific publications.
  • Pharmaceutical industry or medical communications experience, particularly in outcomes research and real-world evidence generation
  • Familiarity with publication management systems
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with submitting manuscripts to medical journals
  • Familiarity with EndNote reference management software.
