The Department of Earth & Planetary Sciences at Rutgers University invites applications for a
Core Curator and Data Analytics Specialist to provide scientific, curatorial, and analytical leadership for the Rutgers-IODP Core Repository and to advance the department's growing data science initiatives.
We seek a dynamic individual who will (1) oversee curatorial operations of the Rutgers-IODP Core Repository, one of the nation's key facilities supporting scientific ocean drilling research, and (2) strengthen our repository's capabilities in modern data analytics, including spatial statistics, Bayesian approaches, and advanced computational techniques.
This is a nine month supports position as an Assistant Research Professor with opportunities for collaboration in research, education, and outreach across the department and the wider Rutgers community. Teaching requirements are one course per semester, with one on geological data analysis at upper undergraduate to graduate level (400/500_ and one introductory geology course (100/200).

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Ph.D. degree in Earth sciences, data science, geoinformatics, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in geological sample handling, curatorial work, laboratory operations, or field collections.
- Proficiency in statistical programming (e.g., R, Python) and modern data analytics.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and collaborative skills.

- Provide stewardship of the Rutgers-IODP Core Repository, ensuring best practices in sample preservation, cataloging, and long-term care.
- Manage day-to-day facility operations, including maintenance of repository infrastructure and specialized equipment.
- Process sample requests from the international scientific community and coordinate sample access and distribution.
- Host visiting researchers, student groups, and collaborators working with repository materials.
- Oversee core processing workflows, including sampling, imaging, description, and preparation for lithologic and micropaleontological analyses.
- Contribute to outreach and educational activities that highlight the scientific value of the repository.
- Reports to Director and Co-Director
Data Science and Infrastructure
- Develop and expand capabilities in spatial statistics, Bayesian data analysis, machine learning, and related analytical approaches relevant to paleoclimate, sea-level, and paleoceanography specifically using core data.
- Support data infrastructure needs for the repository and across faculty research groups, including workflow development, reproducible analytics, and computational resource optimization.
- Provide expertise in data visualization, uncertainty quantification, and advanced statistical modeling especially of core data.
- Collaborate with faculty, researchers, and students on data-driven research projects.
