Rapid Prototype Fabricator - Machinist Support LOCATION:Eglin AFB, FL JOB STATUS:Full-time CLEARANCE: Secret CERTIFICATION: N/A TRAVEL:None Astrion has an exciting opportunity fora Rapid Prototype Fabricator - Machinist, on the Tenants Contract, supporting the Air Force Division at the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate's Technology Division (AFRL/RWT) at Eglin AFB, FL. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience
- 3-10 years of relevant experience
- Active Secret Clearance (US Citizenship required)
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor and CAM. Fusion 360 (CAD/CAM/CAE) (SolidWorks or MasterCam experience will also be considered)
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people, handling multiple projects at once, with attention-to-detail
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs; adaptable to fieldwork and hands-on installations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS
- Prior Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate experience
- Prior experience with USAF or Department of War
- Prior experience with air delivered weapons or munitions
- Proficient in modern software, tools, and techniques for additive and subtractive manufacturing
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in installing new machinery and other heavy equipment.
- Required to use advanced shop algebraic and trigonometric functions, formulas and tables.
- Design, fabricate and implement rigs and/or fixtures to aid in the fabrication process.
- Define reference points with compound, three-dimensional configurations to hold machine, and assemble items with involute curves and intersecting compound angles and transfer reference point of items with three-dimensional configuration to machines/machine centers for fabrication.
- Utilize a wide range of machines and hand tools located within each facility to fabricate, assemble and align parts with critical dimensions.
- Maintain a less than 2% error rate due to tolerances for critical projects and less than 5% error rate for non-critical.
- Support equipment maintenance and calibration programs for all facility equipment and systems.
- Interface with external researchers from other DoD, DOE, foreign and national industry, and foreign Government organizations requiring utilization of facilities and capabilities.
- Participate in maintenance of all equipment and facilities, to include associated support equipment and hardware.
- Adhere to all AF standards regarding logistical and environmental compliance regulations/laws.
- Perform tool inventory and control associated with shop tools used in performance of this TO. Maintaining the assigned tool kit IAW applicable regulations and directives.
- Clean up residual machining materials; perform necessary corrosion control and machine start-up and shut-down procedures and inspection procedures before, during and after use of equipment.
- Operate machines in a safe manner and observe all rules and regulation pertaining to safety. Follow AF OSHA, and applicable occupational safety, health and environmental regulations and local safety policies. No repeat safety violations will be tolerated.
- Work in an environment which requires standing, stooping, bending, reaching, as well as lifting and handling objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are required.
- Utilize hoists, forklifts, hand trucks, lifts, and use other employees to assist with heavy items. Hoists, forklifts, hand trucks, and lifts will be operated within the regulations governing AF OSHA.
- Be capable of dismantling repairing, relocating, modifying, maintaining, aligning, and installing fixed and semi-fixed machinery, equipment, and systems such as various standard and numerically controlled machine tools and metalworking machines.
- Suggest and implement methods for fastening and holding parts together (welding, soldering, brazing, etc.) of various metals.
- Review and provide comments to the Government on solutions for completing efforts.
- Provide originality and ingenuity during fabrication, assembly, and installation of equipment and devices for the project.
- Prepare time and material estimates for proposed activities.
- Determine speeds and feeds, use of coolants and lubricants required for machining metals, metal alloys, plastics based on industry standards; recognize and adapt to exotic or newly developed material speeds and feeds based upon direction specified by management, scientist or engineer.
- Maintain all tolerances specified during the fabrication and final assembly of the work effort.
