Duties, Responsibilities & Other

The Director of Business Solutions leads KCI's internal technology consulting function within Enterprise Technology (ET). This role owns the complete arc from problem discovery through solution delivery - partnering directly with KCI's business units to identify operational pain points, define requirements, evaluate and specify solutions, and drive adoption. The Director serves as ET's primary relationship owner with business unit leaders across the firm and co-stewards KCI Labs alongside the Director of Solutions Engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities*:

Business Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement

Primary ET relationship owner for assigned business units and practice areas across KCI.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships with business unit leaders, project managers, and functional stakeholders.
  • Facilitate structured discovery engagements to surface and diagnose operational challenges, workflow inefficiencies, and unmet technology needs.
  • Represent business unit perspectives and priorities within ET, ensuring the technology roadmap reflects actual organizational need.

Solution Definition & Evaluation

  • Lead requirements definition processes to translate business pain into structured problem statements, functional specifications, and solution criteria.
  • Evaluate build-vs-buy options in collaboration with Solutions Engineering, Enterprise Systems, and the CTO.
  • Assess vendors and participate in RFP/evaluation processes for tools and platforms relevant to business unit workflows.
  • Create proposed solutions that are feasible, appropriately scoped, and aligned to ET standards and enterprise architecture.

Project Delivery & Change Management

  • Serve as the business-side delivery owner for ET-sponsored solutions, coordinating across ET groups and business stakeholders.
  • Develop and execute change management plans for technology deployments, including communication, training, and adoption tracking.
  • Monitor solution performance post-deployment and drive continuous improvement in partnership with the business.
  • Maintain visibility into project status, risks, and dependencies; escalate to CTO as appropriate.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Hire, develop, and retain a team of Business Analysts embedded as partners with KCI's business units.
  • Establish and sustain best practices for discovery, requirements documentation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, accountability, and continuous learning within the Business Solutions group.
  • Develop team members' consulting skills, business acumen, and knowledge of KCI's markets and delivery model.

KCI Labs Co-Stewardship

  • With Director of Solutions Engineering, lead KCI Labs to provide business context for applied R&D and innovation initiatives.
  • Champion KCI Labs use cases that originate from business unit discovery and connect real operational problems to emerging technology experiments.
  • Represent business unit feedback on innovation pilots and help evaluate whether Lab outputs are ready for broader adoption.

Strategic Contribution

  • Contribute to the ET strategic plan by identifying technology investments that drive measurable business value.
  • Track and report on the business impact of ET solutions - connecting technology spend to outcomes KCI's business units care about.
  • Stay current on AEC industry technology trends and bring relevant insights back to business unit and ET leadership.
  • Other duties as assigned.
