Position Description:

Position

This senior-level administrative position in the College of Education will provide leadership to advance the research mission of the College, will report to the Dean, and is an integral part of the Dean's staff, working effectively with faculty, staff, and students. The Associate Dean for Research is appointed by the Dean of the College of Education.The candidate must be tenured at the rank of associate or full professor.This is a 50%-time, academic-year appointment for a one-year term and is renewable. Candidates must be currently employed at the University of Iowa (internal candidates only).

Administrative Responsibilities





  • Provide mentorship to faculty in the conduct of research, grant writing, and dissemination of research.
  • Seek external funding to support the research program of the College.
  • Foster collaborative and interdisciplinary research with colleagues in the academic and clinical setting.
  • Support an effective infrastructure to support faculty scholarship and grant efforts.
  • Assess the educational and support needs of the faculty related to research and facilitate education and consultation based on identified needs.
  • Assist faculty to provide opportunities for student research.
  • Participate in scholarly activities and professional services as required of members of the University faculty community.
  • Supervise the Grant and Research Services Center and oversee research centers and institutes assigned.
  • Serve as liaison to the Office of the Vice President for Research.
  • Serve as designee representing the Dean as requested.
  • Complete other assignments as requested by the Dean.
  • Serve as a member of Executive Council in the College of Education, Dean's leadership team.




Academic Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to remain active in teaching and/or research, supervise doctoral research, and participate in the activities of professional organizations at the state and national level.

Salary

Commensurate with qualifications and experience. A summer administrative stipend is provided and some work is expected over the months of June and July.

Appointment

Academic year appointment beginning July 1, 2026, or a negotiated start date.

Education Requirement:

Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate from an appropriately accredited institution in one of the disciplines in the College of Education.

Required Qualifications:

Currently employed at the University of Iowa (must be an internal candidate); must be tenured at the rank of associate or full professor; sufficient scholarly and academic achievement; established record of effectiveness in grant development and grant management; knowledge of university organizations, ability to build effective working relationships with community constituents, and a desire to work as a part of an administrative team both inside the College of Education and in the university community at-large. Experience contributing to a welcoming and respectful academic environment.
