Staff Physicians of the Department of Family and Community Medicine (FCM) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) are passionate about improving healthcare delivery, particularly for the underserved; share in our mission to improve health through excellence, innovation, and an antiracist/anti-oppressive framework in patient care, education, research, advocacy, and community empowerment. Staff Physicians perform clinical responsibilities in the following areas at ZSFG: Family Health Center (FHC): The full scope of primary care services for children, adolescents, adults, elderly, and homebound patients, with special clinic sessions dedicated to women and infants care, minor procedures, substance use disorder treatment, teen and young adult care, family-based HIV care, and comprehensive diabetes and hypertension care.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be certified (or board eligible) by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine, or AOBFM.
  • Must have (or be eligible for) a valid California medical license as determined by the Medical Board of California (MDs) and Osteopathic Medical Board (DOs).
  • Prior experience and commitment to working with underserved populations, racially and ethnically diverse patients and staff is essential.
  • Commitment to using an antiracist/anti-oppressive framework and lens to patient care, education, teaching, and advocacy.
  • Federal Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license with a California address.
  • Applicant must have all requirements met by time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience as a physician at UCSF, familiar with processes for medical records, Epic, Apex, and billing.
  • Training and experience in Family Med

License/Certification :
* Must be certified (or board eligible) by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine, or AOBFM.
* Must have (or be eligible for) a valid California medical license as determined by the Medical Board of California (MDs) and Osteopathic Medical Board (DOs).
* Apply for and be approved for privileges with the Medical Staff Office at ZSFG. Start date is dependent upon the approval of without salary appointments as well as your clinical privileges and credentialing status.
* Taking into account the credentials verification process, acquiring privileges to see patients at ZSFG in any capacity can take between 60 and 180 days.
o Medical Staff Privileges (60-90 days)
o Application for a UPIN and/or a PI
o Enrollment for Medicare (14-30 days)
o Enrollment for Medi-Cal (90-180 days)
o Hill Physicians Medical Group (15-60 days)
o UCSF Medical Group (5-30 days): Enrollment with the UCSF Medical Group ensures that you will be enrolled with
o all UCSF contracted health plans covered by the standards and processes that are specific to UCSF.

Salary Information


The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.


Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
