Special Note
This is a full-time, overtime eligible, project position on the Olympia campus of The Evergreen State College. This project position is funded through April 15, 2027.
Position Purpose
This position reports to the Director of Auxiliary Services and is primarily responsible for the day to day operations of the college's Copy Center; acting as first point of contact for all copy machine and managed printer issues and maintenance throughout the campus; and performing retail sales duties in the Greener Store during Copy Center non-peak times. This position must provide excellent customer service to all students, faculty, staff, and retail customers.
Nature and Scope
Essential Functions
Copy Center (approximately 80%)

  • Operate, clean, and maintain the following equipment: copy machines, printers, paper cutters, folders, binders, on-line collators, stapling, padding, and other machines.
  • Receive, prioritize, and process copy and print orders to meet established deadlines with accuracy and a great level of attention to detail.
  • Scan and store materials for faculty, including obtain copyright law acknowledgement forms.
  • Arrange with vendor for maintenance and service calls for managed equipment as needed.
  • Accurately determine interoffice and retail prices of copy products within established Copy Center rates.
  • Log copy center jobs and accurately bill cost centers and prepare account receivable sales monthly; seek approvals from department budget authority for larger copy/print job orders.
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive documents received from customers.
  • Accurately manage and maintain inventory levels, order and receive replacement supplies and consumables inventory; conduct annual physical inventory as well as cyclic inventory counts.
  • Regularly confer with faculty and staff on copy and printer orders and confer on which copy products to stock.
  • Perform regular diagnostic checks on copy center managed copiers, printers, and related equipment on campus.
  • Make minor repairs and common adjustments on copy equipment to ensure quality and production standards.
  • Train students and temporary employees, as assigned.
  • Regularly access, read, and reply to email requests.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Retail Functions (approximately 20%)

  • Offer outstanding customer service in a retail campus store environment to students, faculty, staff and the general public.
  • Operate point of sale cashiering system.
  • Stock and maintain shelves and perform inventory duties.
  • Assist customers, including answering questions, locating items, explaining store policies and procedures, etc.
  • Train students and temporary employees, as assigned.
  • Perform opening and closing procedures in the Greener Store.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Skill in and ability to offer outstanding customer service in a retail Copy Center/retail store environment to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of various copy machine parts and functions of those parts and ability to maintain copy machines, printers, and copy related equipment.
  • Ability to learn to operate copy and print and production finishing equipment within a reasonable length of time.
  • Ability to perform retail duties, including assisting customers, cashiering, and performing inventory tasks.
  • Ability to effectively work under pressure and time constraints in a busy, public college Copy Center/campus store environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, faculty, staff, and the public.
  • Ability to quickly and accurately learn and apply knowledge of Copy Center, Greener Store, purchasing, and other college rules, regulations, and procedures, including copyright laws.
  • Ability to work in an open environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use computerized point of sale system and inventory control system.
  • Ability to quickly and effectively operate computers with a Microsoft Windows operating system and software such as Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher, InDesign, Photoshop, and standard office equipment.
  • Ability and skills to work successfully with vendors for the procurement of goods and services.
  • Ability to create, organize, and maintain manual and electronic records and files.
  • Basic understanding in graphic design and fonts.
  • Ability to accurately process invoices for payment.
  • Ability to accurately use and follow purchasing card policy to purchase supplies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical ability to perform work that includes the ability to move up to 50 pounds; ability to reach, stoop, twist, and/or crouch.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time at a desk/computer and operate copy equipment standard office equipment and tolerate non-toxic odors and dust associated with the photocopy process.
  • Ability to work occasional evening, weekends, and overtime.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience operating and maintaining photocopy and related equipment.
  • Experience working in a retail store environment.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must provide proof of identity and employment eligibility within three days of beginning work.
  • This position is part of a bargaining unit and covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Prior to a new hire, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Prior to an official offer of employment, a Declaration Regarding Sexual Misconduct form must be submitted to the college per RCW 28B.112.080. The college will contact current and past employers to verify this information. Applicants who provide inaccurate information in their declaration will be disqualified and, if the inaccuracies are discovered after the applicant has been hired, it shall be grounds for termination.
  • Must be able to work occasional evening, weekends, and overtime.
