Job Summary

Job Description

The Compliance Engineer II will ensureproduct compliance for electric motor products by evaluating designs, coordinating testing activities, and consolidating certification requirements across CIMDA and related platforms, in order to support communication with certification bodies, achieve regulatory approval, and ensure efficient and compliant product releases.

Responsibilities

  • Determine product compliance for electric motors by reviewing design specifications, applying applicable safety and energy efficiency standards, owning CIMDA product certifications, managing test plans, submittals and technical documentation, coordinating witness testing and technical investigations, negotiating certification scope, timelines and cost with certification bodies and resolving non-conformities and technical findings to ensure products meet regulatory and certification requirements.
  • Coordinate and support product testing activities by working with engineers and technicians to develop and execute test programs, ensuring designs meet insulation, thermal, grounding and safety requirements, approving critical components (including wire, insulation systems, varnish and tapes), and reviewing BOM changes, material substitutions and design modifications impacting certification, to validate product performance and compliance.
  • Prepare and consolidate certification documentation by compiling product construction data, test results, and technical inputs across CIMDA and related platforms, to ensure complete and accurate submissions to certification bodies.
  • Support certification submission processes by providing required technical documentation and analysis to designated external focal points, to ensure consistent and efficient communication with agencies such as UL, CSA, and TUV.
  • Analyze test data and identify compliance gaps by evaluating results and conducting root-cause analysis, to recommend corrective actions and ensure successful certification outcomes.
  • Collaborate across platforms (CIMDA and HVAC) by aligning compliance requirements and sharing technical insights, to ensure a unified approach to certification and regulatory topics.
  • Maintain compliance records and documentation by updating certification files, test reports and regulatory records, supporting factory inspections from UL and CSA auditors, training production and quality teams on compliance requirements, and ensuring proper use of certified components, marking and labeling compliance, and adherence to change control processes, to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
  • Support product improvement and cost reduction initiatives by validating design changes, ensuring continued compliance, and defining certification strategy for new product launches and design changes, to enhance product competitiveness and lifecycle performance.
  • Ensure adherence to governance for external communication by routing certification-related interactions through designated organizational focal points, to maintain consistency and avoid duplication or inefficiencies with external agencies.

Skills & Qualifications

  • 5 - 8 years of experience in engineering, with demonstrated experience in product compliance, testing, and certification processes within industrial or manufacturing environments
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (required); Additional degree or certifications (preferred)
  • Knowledge of electric motors, including motor types, construction, and performance characteristics
  • Understanding of safety and energy efficiency standards (UL, CSA, TUV, DOE, CEC)
  • Knowledge of product compliance processes, certification requirements, and regulatory submissions
  • Familiarity with motor testing methods, validation procedures, and data analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, Outlook) and data/document management systems
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in compliance documentation
  • Ability to manage multiple certification activities anddeadlines
  • Effective communication with internal teams and external certification bodies
  • Fluent in English (required) ; Additional languages (asset)
