Job Description About the Division of Driver Licensing The Division of Driver Licensing is part of a large, statewide public agency that provides essential services impacting citizens and travelers every day. These services span all counties and regional offices across the state and include highways, roads, bridges, vehicle licensing, driver licensing, and highway safety. The organization works closely with officials at all levels of government to deliver services to citizens, businesses, and government partners, with a continuous focus on improvement. The Division of Driver Licensing (DDL) is responsible for issuing driver's licenses, maintaining driver records, and managing driver safety programs. The division works closely with other state agencies, agencies in other states, and federal government organizations. Recent federal rules enacted by the Department of Homeland Security require enhanced standards for "REAL ID" issuance and record keeping, which must be implemented to issue federally compliant driver licenses. To meet increased demand, DDL has an immediate need for a group of exceptional individuals to join the organization as Driver License Credentialing Specialists. The rollout of a new digitized license computer system across the state will require limited travel to issuance locations in multiple regions. In this position, there may be opportunities for advancement within the Division of Driver Licensing. Credentialing Specialists may be assigned to a mobile unit and required to travel to varying locations throughout the state to issue licenses. These locations may include manufacturing centers, libraries, correctional facilities, and other community locations in need of driver's license services. Overnight stays may be required based on operational needs. Candidates will not be expected to use their personal vehicles. Other duties may be assigned as needed. Position Overview The focus of this role is to learn and apply new digitized driver license issuance requirements and applicable state and federal rules, including REAL ID, Commercial Driver License (CDL), and National Driver Register standards. Successful candidates will: * Review and analyze secure documents submitted by driver license applicants * Handle sensitive personal information * Conduct themselves professionally when interacting with both employees and the public Candidates must be able to pass federal fingerprint-based background checks. Disciplinary action may result from any infractions. All applicants must maintain an active driving record with no current or pending issues. Driving records will be screened periodically (twice per year) for new issues. Primary Responsibilities / Required Skills * Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills (in person and via phone) * Task-oriented, self-motivated, and highly organized * Proven customer service experience serving both internal and external customers * Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment * High level of personal accountability and integrity * Ability to motivate and positively influence others * Professional, supportive, diplomatic, flexible, and responsible demeanor * Ability to learn and use a digitized driver license issuance system * Ability to read, interpret, and accurately enter driver history records * Willingness to become highly knowledgeable in driver licensing laws and policies * Willingness to learn Commercial Driver Licensing laws and processes * Advise applicants on questions and concerns related to driver licensing * Availability for overtime, including evenings (up to 5 hours per week) * Availability to work Saturdays Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Elizabethtown, KY. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.70 - $16.70/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
