Position Title: Technical Manager, ATB's Reports To: Technical Director, ATBs ScheduleMonday through Friday business hours and additional as required Location: Dania Beach, FL Position Supervised: Technical Superintendents and Assistant Technical Superintendents Required Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in engineering required. Experience Seven or more years of experience in marine engineering, fleet technical operations, or vessel management, including demonstrated supervisory or team leadership experience. Languages English Traits Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to develop, motivate, and hold team members accountable. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient with computers and fleet management tools. Ability to manage competing priorities across multiple vessels and projects. Ability to travel as necessary, sometimes on short notice, including for shipyard projects and drydock oversight. Organized, decisive, and results-oriented. Preferred Qualifications Skills/Software Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams). Experience with Nautical Systems - Enterprise (NSE). Education Maritime academy graduate or degree in marine engineering, naval architecture, or related maritime discipline. USCG Senior engineering license. Duties and Responsibilities: Duties and responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Directly supervise, mentor, and develop Technical Superintendents and Assistant Technical Superintendents. Conduct performance evaluations, set development goals, provide ongoing coaching, and hold team members accountable to departmental standards.
- Ensure assigned superintendents are meeting performance and budget targets for their vessel assignments.
- Maintain direct technical accountability for a limited number of assigned vessels.
- Ensure the safe and efficient operation of assigned vessels through superintendent oversight. Review vessel performance documentation and data, monitor operating and capital budgets against approved targets, and review safety meeting minutes, providing direction as needed. Hold superintendents accountable for budget variances and corrective action plans.
- Ensure operational and mechanical soundness of assigned vessels through effective superintendent oversight and adherence to company standards
- Manage and monitor operating budgets for assigned vessels. Demonstrate strong budget literacy, including the ability to read, interpret, and explain budget reports, identify variances, forecast expenditures, and implement corrective actions to maintain fiscal accountability.
- Advise on SMS instructions, procedures, and fleet technical standards. Drive execution of those standards across assigned vessels to ensure consistency in maintenance practices, operating procedures, and reporting.
- Oversee planned maintenance program execution within NSE for assigned vessels, ensuring maintenance schedules are followed and standard jobs are completed to specification
- Ensure assigned vessels meet all stakeholder requirements, including federal and applicable state/port authorities, customer and terminal operator requirements, and company policies.
- Guide and support Technical Superintendents in drydock planning, scope development, and budget preparation for assigned vessels. Monitor drydock execution to ensure adherence to approved budgets and timelines, including review of repair work progress, negotiation and settlement of vendor invoices, and resolution of scope changes.
- Lead execution of shipyards for assigned vessels, ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within approved budgets
- Evaluate and approve repair vendors, ensuring all technical, quality, and safety requirements are met
- Promote a professional and accountable working relationship with vessel officers and crew. Convene safety meetings during vessel visits, addressing issues important to management
- Conduct periodic vessel visits to assess vessel conditions, evaluate superintendent performance, and verify execution of company standards
- Communicate with Commercial operators and charterers regarding operational matters.
- Collaborate with HSSEQ staff on shipboard safety, quality, and environmental matters
- Review and approve vessel purchase requisitions and major expenditures within delegated authority. Monitor departmental spending against approved operating and capital budgets.
- Code and review invoices and receipts as required
- Perform such other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as may be required or directed by the Technical Director
