Job Description:

Microchip is seeking a Reliability Engineer for our Colorado Springs, CO office. This role is responsible for conductingqualification stress test evaluations that support company strategies for industrial, automotive, and military product release. This position plays a critical role in ensuring product performance meets internal and industry requirements, including JEDEC, ISO, Military/Aerospace, and Automotive (AEC) standards, to meet customer expectations across product lifecycles.

This engineer will work both independently and collaboratively, serving as a technical leader and individual contributor as needed. This role requires close collaboration within an interactive laboratory engineering team, as well as direct communication with internal stakeholders, vendors and suppliers, auditors, and management.

The ideal candidate is a proactive and creative problem solver with strong technical expertise, a commitment to continuous learning and excellence, exceptional communication and organizational skills, and a passion for delivering high-quality customer support in fast-paced environments.

Primary duties will include, but are not limited to:
  • Work in cross-functional teams to ensure successful qualification plan development and support scheduled product development release dates.

  • Perform product and package qualification and evaluation techniques in accordance with industry-standard requirements.

  • Design, validate, and use PCB boards, biasing programs and board configurations, and tooling schematics for qualification stress testing and equipment installation / development, debugging, and maintenance.

  • Ensure proper equipment performance by PM's and stress/tools monitoring.

  • Maintain a clean work area and initiate lab continuous improvement actions.

  • Detail records of qualification stress work-in-progress, summary results, lab procedures and guidelines, and equipment maintenance activities.

  • Support meetings, electronic verifications, and audits for new product release, customer inquiries, qualification reporting, and regulatory registrations.

  • Deliver after-action reviews, project summary stakeholder meetings, and executing qualification failure reviews for root cause understanding.

  • Utilize environmental stress test machinery and electronics, including high voltage, high / low temperatures, fluids, gases, and vibration.

  • Complete required hands-on work to check and load boards / equipment to execute qualification environmental stresses with high quality in optimized schedules.

  • Perform additional job-related tasks as instructed by the manager.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) or related field, with 5 - 7.5 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Strong working knowledge of electronics and lab equipment, e.g., oscilloscopes, power supplies, waveform generators, digital multimeters and thermometers.

  • Experience with PCB, hardware and software design and development.

  • Knowledge of SQL, Python, C/C++ languages, HTML, Flask, etc., and experience with database and website coding.

  • Familiar with common statistical comparison and quality reviews methods.

  • Solid ability with office programs and equipment, including networked systems and Microsoft 365 suite.

  • Proficiency with soldering is highly desirable, otherwise willing to learn.

  • Familiarity with CAD software, 3-D printers, and machining is desirable.

  • Familiarity with Project Management application and Six Sigma is beneficial.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with leadership experience in project management, presentations, and continual improvement activities.

  • Strong interpersonal skills in team settings, both as a leader and a contributor.

  • Methodical and organized - data driven - quality focused - results oriented.

  • Able to work independently while seeking input and feedback as appropriate.

  • Flexible in learning new skills and taking on new roles, with responsibilities and opportunities evolving to meet lab goals and project needs, as required.

Benefits of working at Microchip

The annual base salary range for this position, which could be performed in the US, is $70,304 - $205,000.*

*Range is dependent on numerous factors including job location, skills and experience.
