THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is seeking a career-oriented individual with a self-drive to maintain public safety and the rules and regulations of the department, all while performing lifting device inspections. Join our valued team and become a Uniform Construction Code (UCC) Elevator Inspector Trainee. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a UCC Inspector Trainee, you will be under the general supervision of a UCC Building Inspector Supervisor. Incumbents are responsible for learning how to inspect the construction of commercial buildings for conformance with building, accessibility, fire safety, energy conservation and other health and safety laws and regulations. You will learn how to conduct audits and perform plan reviews of municipal code programs to determine compliance with the accessibility requirements. This role reports unsafe conditions and violations as well as conducts follow-up inspections of buildings and structures to ensure compliance of reported deficiencies. You will have the opportunity to work closely with contractors, architects, engineers, building owners, and other code officials. Additional responsibilities include representing the Department of Labor & Industry at hearings, attending board meetings, and actively completing prescribed trainings.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is home headquartered. In order to be home headquartered, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience inspecting commercial, industrial, or other public use buildings for compliance with building and safety codes; or
  • Two years of building construction work which included the performance of skilled trades duties in the electrical, structural, plumbing, or mechanical trades; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Conditions of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid driver's license.

Post Employment Requirements:

  • This position requires valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Accessibility Inspector/Plan Examiner within the probationary period.
  • All positions in this job also require one of the following valid certifications issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, within the probationary period: Building Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Mechanical Inspector, Plumbing Inspector, or Energy Inspector.

Other Requirements:

  • The selected candidate must live in or be willing to relocate to Blair, Centre, or Clearfield county by date of hire. Expenses will not be paid.
