ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identify, investigate, and manage all incidents (includes management of incident reporting system, stabilization of environment, disclosure and documentation advice, evidence retrieval, record analysis, interviews, research, billing management, staff support, and follow-up).

  • Monitor, manage, and analyze risk management data collected through the incident reporting system (includes identification and tracking of incident trends, monitoring and addressing compliance with incident reporting policy, identification of system issues, and development and implementation of process improvements).

  • Develop annual risk management plan.

  • Assist department heads and clinical chairs in designing risk management programs and policies within their departments.

  • Participate in Committees representing Clinical Risk Management and leads committees or projects related to risk mitigation or improving patient safety.

  • Identify cases that may be potential claims and provide an early warning to other departments (Legal, Marketing, etc.) once identified.

  • Assist with coaching healthcare providers or facility leaders regarding unanticipated outcomes.

  • Follows-up with patients and families when appropriate and works proactively toward early resolution with other appropriate parties as necessary.

  • Manage, advise, and direct Patient Representatives, physicians, and partners to resolve significant patient complaints.

  • Develop and conduct educational sessions upon request or with identified need.

  • Participate in proactive risk management activities such as risk management rounds, risk assessments, program/policy evaluations.

  • Participate in quality committees and process improvement efforts, such as root cause analysis, failure mode effect analysis, and other designated process improvement initiatives.

  • Identify and report those occurrences as required by the Safe Medical Devices Act.

  • Assist director of risk management with insurance and claim management programs when necessary.

  • Work closely with legal and quality/patient safety departments to assure alignment and advance shared goals.

  • Maintains visibility in the organization.

  • Other duties as assigned based on department need.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Minimum Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Clinical/professional training (RN, Pharmacist, or other).

  • Minimum five years' clinical experience required. Leadership experience preferred.

  • Minimum three years' experience in risk management, patient safety or quality management required.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree or other advanced degree preferred.

CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Preferred:

  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) within 18 months of hire.

Ability to follow both written and oral instructions accurately and consistently.

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action and have demonstrated ability to work as a team member.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION

Direction: The supervisor sets a definite objective and a general framework, but the employee is responsible for planning and arranging their own work to achieve the goal. The supervisor typically only reviews the final results.

PAY RANGE:

$80,716.59 - $129,146.55
