Overview

Working in the Patient Registration Department, this position is responsible for patient registration, cash collections in Admitting, and performing certain diagnostic testing. Promote excellent customer service. Actively involved in the Department orientation and training of new employees. Other duties as assigned. Must be in the Clinical Registrar I position for a minimum of one year.

Responsibilities

ENSURES THE TIMELY AND ACCURATE REGISTRATION OF PATIENTS BY OBTAINING AND PROCESSING DEMOGRAPHIC, FINANCIAL AND CLINICAL INFORMATION IN AN EFFICIENT AND PROFESSIONAL MANNER.

  • Greets patients and visitors in an appropriate and courteous manner, determining their need for assistance including directions, and escort or transport.
  • Demonstrates customer focus and strives to exceed customer expectations by providing courteous, compassionate and efficient service to our customers.
  • Determines the type of service the patient is to receive by reviewing physician orders, the outpatient services form, and the alphabetical patient listing and/or by questioning the patient.
  • Demonstrates ability to work with minimum supervisory guidance and exercises independent judgement.
  • Demonstrates ability to access software needed to retrieve testing orders.
  • Escorts or transports patients and their belongings to their designated areas-ancillary departments, outpatient areas and ED rooms as warranted.
  • Obtains necessary registration, medical, financial, and demographic information from Pre-Registration, Inpatients, Outpatients, Offsite registrations.
  • Demonstrates vast knowledge of the registration process and able to provide direction.
  • Provides assistance in the collection of self-pay portion payments at the time of registration.
  • Identifies those patients needing financial counseling referrals.
  • Has a clear understanding and is able to explain all rules and regulations in regards to HIPPA, ABN, MSP and EMTALA.


COLLECTS COPAYS AND DEDUCTIBLES FROM THE PATIENT USING SCRIPTING PROVIDED AND IN ACCORDANCE WITH DEPARTMENT POLICY AND EMTALA GUIDELINES.

  • Accepts payments and issues receipts for all patients.
  • Ensures accurate account numbers are listed with every payment accepted.
  • Exceeds upfront collection goals and mentors others to achieve collection goals.
  • Labels receipt envelopes.
  • Ensures safe keeping of all cash, checks and charges received.
  • Refers patients to the Financial Counselor when financial arrangements need to be made.
  • Determines any outstanding balances from past visits.
  • Processes all credit card payments


PERFORMS VARIOUS CLERICAL PROCESSES, INCLUDING ENTERING CHARGES, PERFORMING TRANSPORT/COURIER SERVICE AND OTHER CROSS TRAINING FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT AND ASSISTS ANCILLARY STAFF AS REQUIRED

  • Enters accurate outpatient ancillary department charges, and test requisitions, making adjustments as needed.
  • Enters the Quick Admit on the tracking board accurately and timely.
  • Gives accurate directions to departments or escorts patients to their room.
  • Assembles all paperwork and delivers to proper area.
  • Performs services and other assigned duties in a proficient manner to ensure quality service.
  • Preforms random audit on registrations to ensure quality work.
  • Provides Manager/Coordinator with feedback on areas of needed improvement.
  • Assists Manager/Coordinator with continued education within the department


Provides job specific and safety training within the Department to ensure compliance and comprehension of all new and existing employee's

  • Assists Manager/Coordinator with identifying employee training and developmental needs.
  • Demonstrates effective teaching skills and a desire to teach.
  • Encourages and assists employees in improvement/development planning.
  • Provides Manager/Coordinator with feedback regarding employee efforts and accomplishments.
  • Provides feedback to individualized training plans to strengthen an employee's existing skill or teach new ones.
  • Assists Manager/Coordinator to solve specific training problems, either on a one to one basis or in groups.
  • Plays a vital role in educating and instructing staff during events surrounding safety/disaster events

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $17.67per hour - $28.63per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
