The South Bend Kroc Center is seeking experienced Fine Arts Instructors to teach individual lessons and group classes. If you enjoy helping beginners build confidence and experienced learners strengthen their skills, we would love to hear from you.

You will create engaging lessons for children and adults while supporting a welcoming environment that encourages creativity, personal growth, and connection.

Compensation: Starting at $25 per group class or $12.50 per individual 30-minute lesson
Schedule: Set your own teaching hours in coordination with the Fine Arts Department
Position type: 1099 independent contractor

What You'll Do


  • Teach engaging individual lessons and group classes using sound instructional methods and proper techniques.



  • Adapt instruction for beginners through advanced learners and participants of different ages and abilities.



  • Prepare lesson plans and instructional materials that support participants' learning goals.



  • Provide constructive feedback and help participants recognize their progress.



  • Create a safe, encouraging, and enjoyable learning environment.



  • Develop and evaluate classes based on program goals and participant needs.



  • Coordinate class development and scheduling with the program manager or coordinator.



  • Communicate schedule or classroom changes promptly to participants.



  • Arrive on time, prepared to teach, and maintain professional relationships with participants, families, and staff.



  • Treat all participants with fairness and respect while supporting The Salvation Army's mission and commitment to spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being.




What You'll Bring


  • Prior teaching experience or relevant experience in your area of instruction. Requirements vary by class.



  • A related certification, degree, or demonstrated level of expertise.



  • Ability to demonstrate and teach the skills required for your class.



  • Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.



  • Ability to work independently and connect with people of different ages and backgrounds.



  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the instruction provided.



  • A high school diploma or equivalent.



  • Must be at least 18 years old.



  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English. Spanish language skills are a plus.




Additional Requirements


  • Maintain current personal insurance where applicable before beginning instruction.



  • Complete the required Salvation Army Safe From Harm training and become certified as a Safe From Harm Train the Trainer.



  • Successfully complete a thorough background check before beginning the contract.
