The Fair Banking Oversight & Senior Risk Advisor is responsible for serving as a Second Line of Defense (2LOD) Fair and Responsible Banking oversight framework across Atlantic Union Bank. This role focuses on maturing, maintaining, and operationalizing the Fair Banking framework encompassing Fair Lending, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), and UDAAPrelated risks. The Senior Advisor provides independent oversight, governance leadership, credible, and effective challenge to the First Line of Defense (1LOD). In addition to governance and framework ownership, this role provides horizontal integration across Fair Banking disciplines and supports peer roles during periods of increased demand, including regulatory exams, remediation efforts, and peak monitoring or testing cycles. This role will partner closely with the Director - Fair & Responsible Banking, the Fair Banking CRA Program Administrator, and the Fair Banking CRA Advisor to ensure clear role delineation and strong program execution.

This position operates within the Second Line of Defense and provides independent oversight, advisory support, and risk-based challenges.

Position Accountabilities

Fair Banking Risk Oversight & Monitoring



  • Serves as a co-architect and steward of the enterprise Fair Banking governance framework, partnering with the Director to evolve structure, standards, and oversight routines.
  • Maintains Fair Banking governance artifacts, including frameworks, standards, escalation models, monitoring strategies, and documentation aligned to the Compliance Management Program (CMP).
  • Matures Fair Banking governance routines, including reporting cadence, issue escalation pathways, and management/committee materials.
  • Ensures the Fair Banking framework effectively integrates Fair Lending, CRA, and UDAAP risk considerations from a horizontal, enterprise perspective.
  • Continuously enhance the Fair Banking risk governance framework supporting risk identification, documentation, and thematic assessment.
  • Utilizes data analytics, trend analysis, and qualitative assessments to identify emerging Fair Banking risks, control gaps, or areas of heightened regulatory exposure.
  • Support issue management activities, including independent challenge of root cause analysis and validation of remediation effectiveness.


Complaints & Marketing Oversight



  • Provides independent 2LOD oversight of complaint trends and themes impacting Fair Banking, coordinating with the Office of the President while maintaining independent conclusions.
  • Maintain Fair Banking standards and expectations for complaint theming and escalation related to fair treatment and UDAAP risk.
  • Conducts independent reviews and effective challenging of marketing campaigns and customer communication for Fair Banking risk.
  • Coordinate with Fair Banking teammates when complaints or marketing raise Fair Lending or CRA specific considerations.


Change Management & Regulatory Readiness



  • Monitors regulatory development related to Fair Lending, CRA, UDAAP, and broader Fair Banking expectations.
  • Assess regulatory changes for Fair Banking governance and framework impacts and support implementation efforts from a Fair Banking governance and oversight perspective.
  • Assist with preparation for regulatory examinations and internal audits, including development of governance narratives, responses, and supporting materials.



Training & Advisory Support



  • Support development of Fair Banking training and awareness material focused on governance expectations and risk themes.
  • Serve as a 2LOD Fair Banking governance and escalation point for assigned LOBs (Line of Business), providing independent guidance and credible effective challenge on material Fair Banking risks.
  • Conducts independent review and effective challenge of new products, processes, initiatives, and changes with Fair Banking implications.
  • Partner with LOB Compliance Advisors, Risk, Legal, and Enterprise teams to ensure consistent and coordinated Fair Banking oversight.
  • Support CRA oversight activities through governance integration, framework support, and surge capacity, partnering with the Fair Banking teammates.
  • Support preparation of management and committee materials related to Fair Banking risk themes and performance.
  • Assist with Fair Banking training & development and delivery for both Compliance and business stakeholders.
  • Stay current on changes to Fair Lending, CRA, UDAAP, and related consumer protection laws and regulations.


Organizational Relationship

This position reports to the Director - Fair & Responsible Banking.

Position Qualifications

Education & Experience



  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 5+ years of industry banking experience in Fair Banking, Fair Lending, CRA, UDAAP, or related consumer compliance protection disciplines.
  • Experience with governance frameworks, compliance monitoring, issues management and regulatory engagement.
  • Experience performing or supporting Fair Banking risk assessments, monitoring, or testing activities.
  • Certification as a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) preferred


Knowledge & Skills



  • Strong understanding of Compliance Management Systems (CMS) and Second Line of Defense practices, with the ability to support compliance oversight and effective challenge.
  • Working knowledge of federal and state banking laws and consumer protection regulations, including Fair Lending, ECOA, FHA, CRA, and UDAAP.
  • Experience with internal controls, risk assessments, and compliance testing and monitoring processes, including the use of data and reporting to identify trends and risks.
  • Ability to synthesize and assess issues across Fair Banking and compliance disciplines, considering broader enterprise impact.
  • Strong analytical and problemsolving skills, with attention to detail and sound judgment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly document findings and communicate risk and compliance considerations to stakeholders.
  • Well organized, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic and evolving regulatory environment.
  • Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to adjust to changing business or regulatory needs.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); experience with compliance, banking, or data systems preferred.


Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
