HJF is seeking a Medical Technician to support the University's Family Health Center by providing technical assistance to approximately staff and medical providers. Responsibilities include performing patient screenings and patient chaperon support, phlebotomy, immunizations, setting up instruments and equipment for minor surgical procedures and exams. Additionally, this role assists providers with dispensing pharmacy medications, helps coordinate mass immunizations for USUHS, and schedules urgent and non-urgent patient appointments.

This position will be in support of USU's School of Medicine's Family Health Clinic (SOM-FAM) located in Bethesda, MD.

  • Rooming, Vitals, and Screening: Escort patients to exam rooms; obtain and record vital signs (BP, pulse, temp, height/weight) and intake data; and document in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Conduct routine patient screenings (e.g., vision/hearing tests, TB skin tests, and point-of-care lab testing like urinalysis or glucose checks).
  • Clinical Tasks: Set up sterile fields and instruments for minor surgical procedures. Assist providers during exams and procedures as a chaperone. Perform phlebotomy, administer immunizations and therapeutic injections, conduct EKGs, and perform suture/staple removals as directed by the provider.
  • Front desk coverage: Manage patient flow by scheduling both urgent and non-urgent follow-up appointments. Greet and check-in arriving patients. Answer telephones and provide triage consistent with level of training.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor medical supply levels, process sterilize instruments (autoclave) and ensure exam rooms are fully stocked and sanitized between patients.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Associate's degree required, Bachelor's degree preferred within healthcare or related field
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required, preferably 1 year or more.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Must hold current BLS certification and CPR certificate.

  • Certified phlebotomist preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Must be organized, attentive to detail.
  • Must possess a positive, friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Knowledge of clinical or general research techniques.
  • Experience in or exposure to research in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Familiarity and experience with research design and data collection.
  • Knowledge of pulmonary testing and equipment.
  • Demonstrated competence in oral and written communication.
  • Must be flexible with changing priorities and able to communicate in a diplomatic and professional manner.
  • Computer skills including at least intermediate level experience with Microsoft Office Software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinic.

Compensation

  • The hourly pay range for this position is $22.16 - $30.55. Actual hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
