Job Description

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Provide environmental services to all Parkland departments and internal/external customers, assuring sanitation, cleanliness, and safety in a timely manner and promotes harmonious relationships with all contacts.

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS

Education

  • None.

Experience

  • Must have three years of environmental services experience in a healthcare or related institutional setting, or four years of complementary experience.
  • Must complete departmental training and testing specific to the department.

Equivalent Education and/or Experience

  • None.

Certification/Registration/Licensure

  • None.

Skills or Special Abilities

  • Must be able to follow both oral and written directions.
  • Must be able to demonstrate sanitation techniques, and the use of cleaning materials. Must be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of specialized cleaning techniques and all Environmental Services cleaning equipment.
  • Must be able to relate well to others and fellow employees and be able to demonstrate techniques and relay procedures to assigned personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Cleans assigned areas, including hospital critical care areas, patient room areas, corridors, walkways, parking areas, etc. to assure the optimal clean, sanitary and safe environment for all internal/external customers of the hospital and Parkland. Assigned duties may include sweeping, moping, vacuuming, collection and disposal of common and medical infectious waste, cleaning, floor striping, buffing floors, detailing, etc.
  • Harmoniously works with all contacts inclusive of patients, visitors, hospital and Parkland employees and managers, to promote optimal customer services and customer satisfaction in accord with the missions and objectives of the Environmental Services Department, the hospital and Parkland.
  • Maintains, correctly uses, and cares for all environmental services materials, equipment and supplies, requisitions and replenishes supplies as needed, notifies supervisor when maintenance, and/or repair is needed, to assure the optimal usage of materials and safety for Environmental Services Department services and resources. May maintain utility and storage areas and/or move furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Responds to and uses the Environmental Services Department's "Bed Tracking" system to assure immediate cleaning of rooms after patient discharge for the immediate availability of the room to newly assigned patients, and to assure all appropriate personnel are notified in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Identifies and analyzes the work processes, workflows, quality outcomes, etc. for this position and recommends appropriate changes to the supervisors to improve customer service, effectiveness, productivity, efficiency that support the overall goals of the hospital and PHHS.
  • Stays current with the latest developments, advancements and trends in environmental services cleaning, sanitation, and safety areas by attending in-service sessions, classes/workshops, reading materials/magazines and integrates this knowledge as appropriate into the job.
  • Serves as lead person to assigned personnel to assure the continuance of coordination and direction, while providing optimal services to internal and external customers. Must be flexible and respond to the needs of the shift.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the Environmental Services area. Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws, and the program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as necessary to ensure proper understanding.

  • Stays abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure. Integrates knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws and guidelines that impact the area. Develops effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans. Seeks advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
