Overview
D440 is a unique engineering organization with a range of responsibilities. Specific projects could include developing requirements, working with suppliers to develop new components, overseeing component qualification testing, supporting shipboard construction and test, and supporting the fleet with troubleshooting once the system is in use. To do this, engineers will interface with engineers of various disciplines, Electric Boat management, Electric Boat Program Offices, Navy Laboratories, SUPSHIP, and NAVSEA. The successful candidate will serve as technical lead for one or more electromechanical devices that are critical to the system. Responsibilities include:
Developing, communicating, and verifying requirements
- Leading multidisciplinary engineering evaluations
- Supporting design, construction, installation, test, certification, and delivery activities
- Providing subcontractor management
- Performing engineering troubleshooting
- Providing technical expertise to component engineers in the department
- Capturing lessons learned and best practices, and incorporating them into the flow of work
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace, Marine, Structural, or Civil Engineering
- 5+ years of post-graduate engineering experience
- The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret clearance
Preferred:
- Master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Experience with signal processing
- Experience in subcontractor management
- Experience in system design, component design, qualification, and integration
- Experience reading and interpreting engineering drawings, electrical diagrams, construction drawings, equipment drawings, and vendor equipment manuals
- Familiarity with shipbuilding specifications, technical manuals, and other source documentation
- Experience in ship construction
- Familiarity with submarine design, qualification, and construction
- Willingness to travel occasionally, typically less than 5% of the time
Skills
- Functioning independently with significant individual judgment as well as in a team environment
- Willingness to work in laboratory and production environments
- Expertise in electromechanical component design, structural analysis, finite element analysis, signal processing, or other analysis related skills
- An aptitude for analyzing complex problems, identifying root causes, and developing effective solutions
- Task management skills to coordinate, direct, and participate in diverse design evolutions and troubleshooting efforts
- The ability to communicate with management and technical personnel at EB, our vendors, and our customers
- A capability to work against deadlines or prioritize work assignments accordingly.
