Federal Procurement Analyst, Intern

We are excited to launch our internship program suported by the Maryland Lighthouse and AI initiative! This intern will leverage AI to conduct federal technology procurement research using government databases and intelligence platforms to analyze agency spending patterns and contract trends. We are looking for someone who is intellectually curious and excited to work with us to builds data reports, dashboards, and tracking spreadsheets to support competitive intelligence and maintain audit-ready procurement databases.

Fearless' internship program provides college students, recent graduates and career changers with real-world experience in and knowledge of the government tech industry. This 10-week program is a full-time, paid, hybrid internship that will give you not just technical skills, but a broad variety of professional skills, such as interviewing, creating resumes, and networking for job readiness.

Your Responsibilities in this Role:

AI-Powered Research & Analysis

  • Leverage AI tools and large language models to analyze federal procurement data, contract awards, and agency spending patterns across platforms like SAM.gov, USAspending.gov, and FPDS-NG
  • Use AI-assisted research techniques to synthesize information from government intelligence platforms (e.g., GovWin IQ, Bloomberg Government, Deltek) into actionable insights
  • Develop and refine prompts, workflows, and AI-driven processes to accelerate procurement research while maintaining accuracy and source verification
  • Identify patterns in agency buying behavior, contract vehicle usage, and competitor activity to inform business development strategy
  • Ensures AI outputs are verified against primary sources for accuracy

Data Reporting & Dashboards

  • Build and maintain dashboards, trackers, and visualizations that surface key procurement trends and opportunities for internal stakeholders
  • Create recurring and ad-hoc reports summarizing agency spending, upcoming recompetes, set-aside trends, and contract award activity
  • Translate raw procurement data into clear, executive-ready summaries with supporting charts and narratives
  • Support data quality efforts by validating sources, reconciling discrepancies, and documenting research methodology

Competitive & Market Intelligence

  • Track competitor wins, teaming arrangements, and capability positioning across target agencies
  • Monitor agency strategic plans, budget justifications, and forecasts to identify emerging opportunities aligned with Fearless' service offerings
  • Maintain a watchlist of priority contract vehicles, IDIQs, and BPAs relevant to the company's growth strategy
  • Contribute to capture and pipeline reviews by providing timely intelligence on specific opportunities

Database Management & Audit Readiness

  • Maintain audit-ready procurement databases with consistent tagging, version control, and clear documentation of sources
  • Establish and follow data hygiene practices to ensure information is current, traceable, and defensible
  • Organize research artifacts and supporting documentation so insights are reusable across the team

Collaboration & Professional Development

  • Partner with business development, capture, and proposal teams to scope research requests and deliver findings on deadline
  • Present findings in team meetings and contribute to knowledge-sharing across the organization
  • Participate in program activities focused on interviewing, resume building, networking, and career readiness in the gov tech industry
  • Engage with mentors and Fearless leadership to build foundational skills for a career in federal technology


Work Experience

Project Skill and Experience Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in or recent graduate of a associates, bachelor's or master's program, OR a career changer passionate about building your experience in data analysis, research, business intelligence, public policy, etc.
  • Proficiency with spreadsheets (Excel or Google Sheets), including formulas, pivot tables, and basic data manipulation
  • Comfort experimenting with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) and a willingness to learn prompt engineering and AI-assisted research workflows
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex data into plain language
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy, source verification, and data integrity
  • Must have the ability to comply with security requirements for handling sensitive and proprietary data.
  • Ability to work a full-time, hybrid schedule from the Baltimore area for the 10-week program duration

Required Level of Proficiency:

  • Fundemental Awareness: You possess common knowledge or an understanding of basic techniques and concepts. Experience has been gained in a "classroom" and experimental scenarios or as an on-the-job trainee. You are expected to need help when performing skills. You understand and can discuss terminology, concepts, principles, and issues associated with this competency/skill.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on a computer or during meetings.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to client sites or company meetings, which may involve driving or flying.
  • Ability to communicate effectively via phone, email, and in-person, requiring clear speech, listening, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to move within an office environment, including reaching for files, using office equipment, and occasional light lifting (up to 10 pounds).

The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 per hour.
