Position Purpose







The Associate Security Manager is responsible for overseeing and advancing the hospital's access control program and security systems, ensuring the protection of patients, staff, visitors, and assets within a complex healthcare environment. This role recognizes that physical security and access control are deeply interconnected systems that must function cohesively to support safety, operational efficiency, and regulatory compliance.

Given the dynamic nature of a hospital setting where open access, patient care, emergency response, and security must coexist, this position plays a critical role in managing the complexity of access permissions, physical barriers, and security technologies. The Associate Security Manager serves as a key link between traditional security operations and evolving access control solutions, ensuring policies, systems, and practices are aligned and consistently applied.

As the organization continues to grow and technology rapidly evolves, this role is essential in driving integration, modernization, and continuous improvement of access control and physical security strategies. The Associate Security Manager proactively partners with clinical, facilities, IT, and leadership teams to ensure security remains adaptable, scalable, and embedded in the hospital's long-term growth and innovation.

This incumbent will coordinate day-to-day administrative and operational activities with Security Access control system. This position will also be overseeing the Security System Technicians, Information Security Specialist, and the Support Service Dispatchers. The incumbent is responsible for the coordination of all hiring, training, and disciplinary programs.

This position will also assist the Security Manger with operational needs as requested to maintain the Security Department operational.

The incumbent must have a strong understanding of public safety principles, programs and techniques, experience in training development and implementation and be able to efficiently manage multiple priorities under pressure with minimal supervision.











Nature and Scope







This position manages the enforcement of policies and procedures designed for the Access Control and physical protection and security of Renown Health employees, guests, visitors, and authorized vendors; safeguards the facilities, amenities, buildings, and community property; and monitors operation and parking of vehicles in accordance with organizational guidelines.

The Associate Manager's functions include:



  • Present findings from investigations and event reviews to the Manager of Security.
  • Over see all security systems to include but not limited to the child abduction system.
  • Supervise and train staff assigned to support security Access Control.
  • Oversee the hiring and disciplinary actions for the department.
  • Ensure plans are in place for response and assistance during a disaster or emergency.
  • Communicate information in a clear, concise, and timely manner to all levels of the organization.
  • Provide presentations and training as requested.
  • Measure the efficiency and effectiveness of the security department operations.
  • Access System Oversight: Manage and maintain electronic access control systems (EACS), including provisioning and de-provisioning badges for employees, contractors, and vendors.
  • Policy Implementation: Enforce Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) to ensure staff only have access to areas necessary for their specific duties.
  • Audit & Compliance: Conduct regular audits of access logs and user permissions to meet Joint Commission (TJC) and HIPAA regulatory standards.
  • Incident Response: Respond to access control breaches, investigate unauthorized entry attempts, and implement corrective measures to prevent future incidents.
  • System Maintenance: Identify equipment failures in card readers, electronic doors, and cameras, and coordinate repairs with external vendors.
  • Training & Leadership: Train security personnel and hospital staff on proper badge protocols and visitor management procedures.
  • Restricted Area Protection: Ensure high-security zones, such as pharmaceutical storage and maternity wards, ICU's, Pediatrics.
  • Coordinate with construction to ensure new projects are up to standard and ensure that the end user has desired outcome.



The position will have direct leadership and operational oversight of the critical personnel and departments that power the hospital's physical security infrastructure.

It will directly supervise the team responsible for the physical installation, testing, and repair of electronic hardware, including card readers, electromagnetic locks, and intercom systems.

Manage the specialist tasked with database integrity, system programming, and the generation of complex security reports for compliance audits.

Provide strategic directions to support staff ensuring that security administrative tasks and operational workflows align with clinical needs.

Oversee the daily operations of the ID Card/Badging Office, ensuring efficient processing for new hires, students, and medical staff.

Schedule and deploy Security Technicians for both preventive maintenance and emergency system failures.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:



Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform job duties safely and effectively. A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience required.



Experience:



Requires minimum of 2-3 years in related military, security, and/or law enforcement leadership experience within a healthcare environment.



License(s):



Valid State of Nevada or California driver's license and ability to pass Renown Health's Department of Motor Vehicle Report criteria upon hire.



Certification(s):



AHA certified Heart Saver certification required within 12 months of hire.

IAHSS Supervisory Certification is preferred.

A State of Nevada Concealed Weapons Permit (CCW) obtain within 90 days of hire. CCW Permit delays by the appropriate law enforcement agency does not penalize the Manager of Security from meeting the CCW requirements.

A Valid State of Nevada Peace Officers Standards and Training (P.O.S.T.) certificate. (Handgun only) required within 12 months of hire.

De-escalation Training.

Handcuffing Training.

OC Spray Training.

Certified Protection Professional or Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator Designator preferred.

Must be able to successfully pass an annual background check.



Computer / Typing:



Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, and Word and have the ability to use the computer to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Must be proficient with integrated Security Management Systems (SMS), CCTV surveillance.
