Position Summary: The Information Security Technician provides professional-level information security analysis and support by monitoring security events across available tools and platforms, evaluating potential threats, and initiating appropriate response actions. This position applies established security frameworks and procedures to assess risk, investigate alerts, and determine appropriate escalation and/or remediation steps. This role contributes to vulnerability management, incident response activities, and continuous improvement of campus cybersecurity practices while maintaining accurate documentation and supporting institutional security objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitor and analyze available security notifications, evaluating potential security events, and determine appropriate escalation or response in accordance with documented security procedures and escalation guidelines
- Support security remediation activities by applying established documented procedures and escalation guidelines
- Support vulnerability scanning and patch verification activities
- Maintain documentation of security alerts, incidents, including analysis, response actions, and resolution details in tracking systems
- Support security awareness initiatives through development, coordination, and communication efforts
- Keep current on basic and emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices relevant to assigned responsibilities
- Collaborate with staff, faculty, students, and other university stakeholders to support cybersecurity operations, assess issues, and ensure appropriate resolution or escalation
- Follow established office standards and methodologies, ensuring consistency and accuracy
- Regular and predictable attendance required
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Associate's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, relevant certifications, and/or relevant experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of networking, operating systems, and cybersecurity principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to learn and apply new software applications and technologies effectively
- Ability to work outside normal business hours as needed to support operational requirements and to respond to security incidents
- Must be able to exercise sound judgment while applying established procedures and escalation guidelines.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:
- The position is typically performed during standard business hours, though flexibility is required as evening, weekend, or on-call hours may be necessary to meet deadlines, complete system maintenance, respond to emergencies, or support upgrades
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboards, peripherals, and other standard office equipment
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds, including computer equipment and related equipment
- Visual acuity to read and analyze data on screen and in print
- Occasional walking, bending, or reaching to access equipment in server rooms or workspace
