Job Description

We have multiple openings forElectronics Fabrication Technicians. In this role, you will work with scientists and engineers to support manufacturing efforts including electrical/electronic fabrication and packaging; assembly and modification of printed circuit boards, cables and wire harnesses; assembly and disassembly of electronic devices, chassis and systems as well as other specialized equipment used to support ongoing research and projects at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. This position is in the National Security Engineering Division (NSED) within the engineering directorate.

This position will be filled at eitherlevel based on knowledge and related experience as assessed by the hiring team. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if hired at the higher level.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

In this role, you will

  • Provide general fabrication support to assist in the planning, organizing, and completion of moderately complex manufacturing projects.
  • Fabricate cables and wire harnesses using standard crimpers and hand tools.
  • Assemble, modify and repair through hole and surface mount printed circuit boards.
  • Provide general manufacturing support for miniature electronic circuits and cable harnesses requiring extensive use of bench top microscope.
  • Fabricate, assemble and disassemble moderately complex electronic devices, experimental apparatus and industrial control system enclosures using standard hand tools, soldering, test and measurement equipment.
  • Interpret parts lists, schematics, assembly drawings, and verbal requirements to specify and procure hardware needed to complete project deliverables.
  • Propose solutions and alternate approaches to improve manufacturing efficiency and quality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job responsibilities, at the 532.3 level

  • Plan, organize and lead multiple projects of limited scope while applying advanced knowledge of fabrication of complex systems.
  • Generate, develop, and update work procedures, schematics and job estimates.
  • Train and mentor junior technicians on layout, fabrication and installation of electrical and electronic assemblies.
  • Oversee chemical inventory and waste management system to support compliant fabrication operations.

Qualifications
  • Ability to secure and maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
  • Associate degree in electronics, or equivalent combination of education and experience and prior relevant experience.
  • Intermediate skills, knowledge, and abilities in electronics fabrication, inspection, and micro-fabrication, including application-specific processes and quality requirements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from moderately complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical drawings, specifications, and procedures, as well as execute work from detailed verbal instruction.
  • Experience assembling, integrating, troubleshooting, and installing industrial and automation control systems, including panel build, wiring, and verification/testing.
  • Proficient hand soldering of surface mount and through-hole components, including fine-pitch work performed under a microscope; capable of rework and repair to workmanship standards.
  • Experience working in a customer service, production support, and/or field support environment, with the ability to communicate status and support issue resolution.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, documentation and organizational skills.
  • Working knowledge of IPC 620 and/or IPC J-STD or equivalent industry fabrication standards.

Additional qualifications, at the 532.3 level

  • Advanced knowledge andexperience with fabrication prototyping and production including complex design, component selection and layout tasks.
  • Advanced skills and knowledge of complex technical drawings and experience providing labor estimates and design recommendations.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small teams and projects.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Experience developing and updating production documentation such as work procedures and drawings.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9000 policies and procedures.
  • Production experience in cleanroom environment.

Pay Range

$43.55 - $63.97 Hourly

$43.55 - $53.36 Hourly for the 532.2 level

$52.23 - $63.97 Hourly for the 532.3 level

This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting; pay will not be below any applicable local minimum wage. An employee's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.

This is a Flexible Term appointment, which is for a definite period not to exceed six years.If final candidate is a Career Indefinite employee, Career Indefinite status may be maintained (should funding allow).

This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.If you are selected, wewill initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if youmeet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
