Position Overview

As a Data Science Consultant at Securian Financial, you will develop data-driven solutions leveraging state-of-the-art practices and tools to help drive business outcomes that align with Securian's Enterprise Data Strategy Vision and Operating Principles. You'll partner with stakeholders across the enterprise to understand business goals, develop strategy for how data and data science may help accomplish these goals and add value, then work to execute these strategies. You may lead cross-functional teams to develop, build, and implement solutions and apply a variety of analysis, visualization, and modeling techniques to address them. In this role, you will assist and participate in team activities such as code and solution reviews and serve as a technical thought leader. Using tools like Python, Github, and AWS Sagemaker, you will partner with other data, technology, and business teams to develop, test, and deploy solutions.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Communicates with and influences stakeholders in the Employee Benefit Solutions areas to drive toward business outcomes and grow the impact of data science at Securian.

  • Works directly with stakeholders in these areas to understand business goals and will develop strategy for how data and data science may help accomplish these goals.

  • Has proven expertise in life insurance, specifically group insurance products, and deep data science knowledge that can be used to solve complex problems independently or while leading functional teams or projects.

  • Use both functional and technical expertise to proactively collaborate with business and technical leaders to identify, solve and deliver data science solutions and influence strategy to achieve long-term business goals.

  • Mentors or leads less experienced data scientists.

  • Communicates and collaborates with other data and analytics teams within the organization to align resources for projects and make aware of timelines.

Qualifications:

  • Currently holding or working towards graduate degree in a relevant field

  • 4+ years in data science or related field developing both traditional algorithmic and advanced analytical solutions to complex business problems and projects, including robust predictive models, sophisticated computing solutions, and artificial intelligence or machine learning systems

  • 4+ years experience developing, programming, and automating solutions within data science technologies, preferably with Python and AWS

  • Proven experience working with industry standard technologies like Python, AWS Sagemaker, GitHub, etc.

  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems and drive results

  • Technical knowledge of common data science models such as GLM, trees, LLM, xgboost, etc.

  • Ability to explain technical subjects to non-technical audiences

  • Strong moral and ethical compass, ensuring we provide fair, unbiased solutions that don't harm our customers, associates, or our company/brand.

#LI-hybrid **This position will be in a hybrid working arrangement.**

Securian Financial believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. Associates get the benefit of working both virtually and in our offices. If you're in a commutable distance (90 minutes) you'll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$89,000.00 - $164,300.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
