| Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
This position will report to the Chief Sustainability Officer and the Sustainability Coordinator. The assistant will provide skilled assistance on various sustainability projects within the Office of Sustainability. This includes performance of a wide variety of tasks: data analysis, report creation, and the design and promotion of student engagement materials. After receiving general instructions on the Office of Sustainability projects and objectives, the assistant is expected to assist in organizing, planning, and scheduling their work to obtain the required information or complete the required tasks. The assistant is required to research relevant subject material and work with the office staff to communicate desired outcomes, create an action plan, and engage the campus community. This position must be comfortable with outreach in various forms, including but not limited to presentations, tabling, social media, and professional engagement. The Sustainability Assistant will help oversee the smooth operation of sustainability programs through shift coverage, work-study oversight, Seahawk Trail System management, and other activities as assigned.
Work occurs primarily in an office setting. Some tasks are expected to be executed outdoors and are subject to weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow. Some physical activity will be required, including but not limited to standing, squatting, lifting, sorting, walking, digging, pruning, folding, hauling, and planting. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
- High School diploma or equivalent with three (3) years relevant experience.
- Experience with office software programs

| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience |
- Bachelor's degree in a sustainability-related field, or three years of relevant, professional-level work experience in a related field.
- Knowledge of UNCW policies and procedures, or the ability to apply policies and procedures to the work to be performed in the department.
- Working knowledge of GIS and associated software.
- Working knowledge of media marketing and outreach.
