JOB PURPOSE

The Head of Global Diagnostics business carries full P&L responsibility for a ~$500M global diagnostics business operating across two distinct platforms: Reference Laboratory Services and Point of Care Diagnostics. The role is expected to drive a 10%+ growth agenda across US and international markets, including distributor-managed geographies-while integrating recently acquired laboratory capabilities and managing an active business development pipeline.

Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, this leader operates with enterprise-level authority and accountability. They are a member of Zoetis's senior leadership community, shaping not only the Diagnostics business but contributing to broader Global commercial strategy. With approximately 10 direct reports and a global organization of ~1,050 colleagues, the role sets the vision, drives execution, and builds the talent and cultural foundation for sustained competitive advantage.

This is a role for a seasoned enterprise leader who has led large, complex global businesses, closed and integrated acquisitions, and built organizations capable of outperforming in competitive markets.

They are an integral member of the Commercial Leadership Team, nurture crucial relationships within the global business and with key partners, and external bodies, linking the global Diagnostic business with the commercial regions, functions and stakeholders. The Head of Global Diagnostics Business is a leader of leaders, a role model of outstanding leadership behaviors and the Zoetis Core Beliefs.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

  • Deliver sustained profitable growth across the full Diagnostics P&L, exceeding market growth rates
  • Lead and scale two business platforms-Reference Lab and Point of Care-with differentiated go-to-market strategies
  • Drive post-acquisition integration of any acquired business to full value realization
  • Build and execute an active M&A and business development strategy aligned to Zoetis's Diagnostics growth vision
  • Lead a high-performing, globally capable organization of ~1,050 colleagues with a strong succession pipeline
  • Serve as the external face of Zoetis Diagnostics-with customers, partners, regulators, and industry leaders

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Results & Full P&L Ownership

  • Own and deliver the full Diagnostics P&L-revenue, gross margin, and operating expense-at a ~$500M scale with a 10%+ growth mandate
  • Drive commercial performance across both Reference Lab and Point of Care platforms, US and ex-US
  • Establish and manage operating budgets; allocate resources against highest-value growth opportunities
  • Govern financial performance through rigorous KPI frameworks, forecasting, and executive reporting
  • Lead pricing strategy, competitive positioning, and portfolio mix optimization across markets

Enterprise Strategy & Business Planning

  • Own the 3-5 year strategic plan for Global Diagnostics, integrated with Zoetis's enterprise commercial strategy
  • Assess mid- and long-term trends across animal health diagnostics, veterinary practice models, and competitor landscapes
  • Translate strategy into operating plans with clear priorities, milestones, accountabilities, and resource alignment
  • Actively contributes to enterprise-level decision-making and capital allocation discussions with the CCO and executive leadership

Reference Lab & Point of Care Platform Strategy

  • Define distinct growth strategies for each platform, leveraging their unique customer value propositions and competitive dynamics
  • Identify and capture cross-platform synergies in customer relationships, data assets, and portfolio breadth
  • Lead the end-to-end integration of the acquired reference laboratory-ensuring operational continuity, cultural alignment, and value delivery
  • Partner with VMRD, ZTD, Global Manufacturing & Supply, and commercial teams to evolve the innovation pipeline
  • Ensure both platforms are positioned to win in a rapidly evolving veterinary diagnostics landscape

Business Development & Mergers and Acquisitions

  • Maintain and actively manage a prioritized BD pipeline aligned to Zoetis's Diagnostics strategic vision
  • Lead target identification, evaluation, due diligence, and deal structuring in partnership with Corporate Development and Finance
  • Own post-acquisition integration strategy and execution, including synergy tracking and organizational design
  • Build strategic partnerships, licensing arrangements, and co-commercialization structures with external parties
  • Represent Zoetis in M&A negotiations and with investment and board-level stakeholders as required

Global Commercial Execution

  • Lead go-to-market strategy and execution across US direct markets and international markets, including distributor-managed geographies
  • Build scalable commercial capabilities-sales force effectiveness, key account management, and channel strategy
  • Drive above-market growth through disciplined commercial planning, incentive design, and execution rigor
  • Oversee marketing, pricing, and portfolio strategy to maximize revenue and margin across the diagnostics footprint
  • Ensure the appropriateness and effectiveness of ways of working, internal controls, standards, policies and procedures. Ensure the necessary framework for operational success exists, enabling all employees to do their job without unnecessary hindrance

Stakeholder Management & External Presence

  • Cultivate and sustain relationships with major customers, key opinion leaders, distributors, regulators, and government stakeholders globally
  • Represent Zoetis Diagnostics at industry forums, scientific conferences, and in media engagements
  • Champion a customer-first culture across all functions; be personally visible with key accounts and partners

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with applicable local, corporate, legal, and regulatory requirements across all markets. Accountable for ensuring all business transactions are conducted within the guidelines of corporate policies, process and local laws. Manage and sign-off financial statements including the P&L, balance sheets, cash flow and tax returns in compliance with local laws and global guidelines. Ensure SOX compliance by establishing and adhering to internal controls
  • Maintain accountability for pharmacovigilance, product safety standards, and global veterinary policy adherence
  • Promote a culture of integrity, transparency, and ethical business conduct at all organizational levels

People Development, Engagement & Organizational Capability

  • Lead, develop, and inspire a team of ~10 senior direct reports spanning commercial, scientific, and operational functions
  • Build a robust talent plan to develop a highly competent and engaged workforce a diverse succession pipeline capable of sustaining a high-performing, inclusive, and equitable global organization
  • Continuously assess organizational design and capability gaps to match the pace of business growth and market change
  • Champion the Zoetis Core Beliefs; hold leaders accountable for culture, engagement, and colleague development
  • Partner with HR to embed people practices that attract, retain, and accelerate top talent globally

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree strongly preferred (MBA, MS, DVM/VMD, or PhD)
  • Fluent in English; additional language proficiency is an asset in a global role
  • Valid passport; able to meet international travel requirements

EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years of progressive senior commercial leadership experience in animal health, veterinary diagnostics, human diagnostics, or medtech, ideally deep commercial and operational expertise in diagnostics-spanning reference laboratory services and/or point of care platforms
  • Demonstrated enterprise-level P&L ownership at significant scale with a sustained track record of above-market growth
  • Proven experience leading large, complex global organizations across US and international markets, including distributor-managed geographies
  • Significant and successful experience in leading / managing Senior Leaders and organizations. Ability to assess and coach and motivate teams to exceed performance standards.
  • Active M&A and business development experience-including pipeline management, due diligence, deal execution, and post-acquisition integration
  • Track record of leading organizations through major transformation: acquisitions, portfolio expansion, market disruption, and cultural change
  • Experience in managing relations with a wide diversity of stakeholders including customers, academics, regulators, trade associations, policy-makers and senior corporate executives
  • Experience operating in a matrixed, multi-functional enterprise environment at Senior Leader level

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Significant domestic and international travel required-estimated 30-40% of working time
  • Regular travel across US commercial markets and ex-US geographies, including Europe, Asia-Pacific, and distributor markets

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $425,000 to $525,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the base pay target range for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
