The Clinical Social Worker (CSW)'s primary responsibilities are psychosocial assessment, crisis intervention, consultation, coaching, education, community linkages and supportive services for identified patients, families and staff. The CSW coordinates resources and services in response to individual patient's psychosocial needs, situation and fiscal realities. The CSW is an active member of the interdisciplinary team contributing to team goal setting, ensuring appropriate utilization of resources. The CSW acts as a consultant to the clinical team, service lines and other departments and participates in program development and quality improvement initiatives.

The CSW provides identity-appropriate assessments, interpretation of data, and delivery of interventions. All CSWs demonstrates the ability to work with any patient regardless of race, gender, religious affiliation, cultural beliefs, lifestyle, disease process or treatment plan.

The selected candidate will be appointed at the CSW 2 or CSW 3 level depending on qualifications, experience, and licensure.

DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Identify the functions or tasks that employees in the job perform. 5	Yes	Assesses, intervenes and reports intimate partner violence/relationship violence, child/elder abuse and other reportable situations in accordance with legal mandates.
5	Yes	Provides support and acts as a resource for complex Durable Power of Attorney and other legal issues (such as End Of Life Option Act for those who opt-in).
2	Yes	May facilitate patient and family groups.
3	Yes	Attends department, hospital and community in-services related to field of practice.
3	Yes	Participates in quality improvement activities and program planning for the Department, Hospital and Service Lines.
10	Yes	Collaborates effectively with other departments such as the Cancer Resource Center (Patient and Family Cancer Support Center), Oncology Clinics, Psycho-Oncology, etc.
15	Yes	Assesses and intervenes with appropriate advocacy, education and referrals related to access to health care, including health coverage and benefits counseling, referrals for MediCal, and advocacy within the public and private sectors of insurance and disability benefits

Required for Clinical Social Worker II:

This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations.
Master's degree from a CSWE accredited school of Social Work.
A minimum of three years experience supporting individuals with complex health conditions, preferably with cancer patients.
Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position.
Demonstrated clinical experience utilizing skills in individual, family and group interventions.
Knowledge of issues of access to health care and disability benefits.
Demonstrates resourcefulness, effective written and oral communication, diplomacy, organizational and analytic skills.
Self-directed, assertive and creative in problem solving, systems planning and patient care management in a high volume and complex work environment.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams.

Required for Clinical Social Worker III:

Licensed in Clinical Social Work in the state of California/Board of Behavioral Sciences.
The CSW III has advanced clinical knowledge and skills and is distinguished from the CSW II by leadership activities including participation in advanced program planning, provision of educational programs, clinical supervision, consultation to the clinical team, other departments, and the community.

Preferred qualifications:

Thorough knowledge of community resources critical to supporting cancer patients, their caregivers and families.
Therapeutic presence (i.e.: reflective listening, conveyance of empathy), experience carrying out mental health crisis management, and in explaining complicated systematic and interpersonal concepts in Spanish, Cantonese, or Russian.
Applicants with a clear knowledge of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color cultural groups; including their strengths, needs, and communities.
