Description

Macmillan Publishers is seeking a Senior Royalty Accountant to join our Accounting team. Reporting to the Manager, Royalty Accounting, this role supports royalty accounting across both our US Trade and Macmillan Learning divisions, with a focus on general ledger accuracy, reconciliation, and participation in key system and process improvement initiatives.

What You'll Do:



  • Perform royalty accounting close activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis for US Trade and Macmillan Learning
  • Reconcile royalty sub-ledger balances to the SAP general ledger and investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Support ongoing process enhancement work related to royalty document type and GL coding issues arising from the Biblio environment
  • Assist with royalty system migrations and enhancements, including data validation, parallel testing, and reconciliation of balances during transition
  • Assist with audit support schedules and responses to external auditor requests in connection with annual financial statement audits
  • Assist with documentation of workflows, identifying control gaps, and implementing accounting process improvements
  • Interpret contract terms in coordination with Legal and Rights teams to ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Respond to internal stakeholder inquiries regarding royalty balances and accounting positions


What You'll Bring:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA candidate preferred
  • 4-6 years of accounting experience, preferably at least 2 years in royalty accounting or publishing
  • Expert proficiency in SAP, including GL posting, account reconciliation, and reporting
  • Advanced Excel skills, including experience managing and reconciling large data sets
  • Solid understanding of IFRS
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to manage multiple priorities under deadline
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
  • Prior experience in book publishing or media/entertainment
  • Experience with royalty systems, particularly Vista and/or Fadel (IPM), Biblio
  • Familiarity with system migration and data conversion projects
  • Experience supporting Big Four audit engagements


The salary for this role is $108,000.

This position is classified as remote but is tied to our New York, NY office located at 120 Broadway. Employment is subject to New York State tax withholding under applicable regulations.
