Position Purpose







The Academic Hospitalist physician provides services dedicated to the delivery of comprehensive medical care to hospitalized patients, while advancing the field through graduate and undergraduate medical education. Practitioners of hospital medicine engage in clinical care, teaching, research, or leadership in the field of hospital medicine. In addition to their core expertise, hospitalists enhance the performance of hospitals and healthcare systems with time-sensitive and thorough attention to all patient care needs including diagnosis, treatment and the performance of medical procedures (within their scope of practice), with the goal of meeting and exceeding key performance metrics. They must be able to work in a team-centric environment with learners and other staff. The hospitalists serves as the team leader and provides medical expertise, education, and guidance to medical residents and students in an inpatient setting. This physician plays a critical role in supervising and evaluating medical trainees, ensuring that their internal medicine inpatient rotation adequately prepares them for their future careers. Additionally, this physician is expected to participate in quality or scholarly initiatives that contribute to advancing medical knowledge and best practices.











Nature and Scope







The incumbent in this position will be responsible for obtaining history, examining, diagnosing, counseling, and treating patients within their area of specialty and experience. However, a key emphasis of this position will be on education and training. The incumbent will work closely with medical residents and students, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure that they receive a comprehensive education in outpatient medicine. The incumbent will provide verbal and written learner feedback in a manner consistent with the academic standards of the UNR School of Medicine.

To stay up to date with current advances in medicine and the latest trends in their area of specialty, the incumbent will review recent publications, attend in-services and educational meetings, and attend continuing medical education programs in the appropriate field. The incumbent will also demonstrate effective leadership skills, leading by example and working effectively with a variety of internal and external groups.

This position does provide patient care, but the focus will be on providing education and guidance to medical residents and students, while ensuring that all patient care decisions are made in accordance with best practices and the highest standards of quality and care.

Minimum Qualifications

Description



Education:



Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Board-Eligible or Board-Certified in medical specialty.



Experience:



Demonstrated expertise in inpatient care of adult patients. Previous experience in teaching and mentorship of medical residents and students preferred.



License(s):



Must possess and maintain a current and valid State of Nevada Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) medicine license. Controlled substance License to Prescribe issued by the State of Nevada and Controlled Substance Registration Certificate issued by the DEA, required.



Certification(s):



Board Eligible or Board Certified in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine or through America Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOA). If Provider is Board Eligible at time of hire, Certification must be obtained within two (2) years of employment.

Basic Life Support (BLS) AND Advanced Certification Life Support (ACLS) required. Prefer American Heart Association (AHA) approved certification but will accept online certification from American Red Cross Training Services, Advanced Medical Certification, or ACLS Certification Institute.



Computer / Typing:



Ability to credential through Renown's Medical Staff and/or payor credentialing, as applicable.
