The Offshore Mechanical Technician safely troubleshoots, repairs, overhauls, maintains and replaces mechanical equipment. The Technician also applies knowledge of mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Key Duties:
- Actively participate in daily and monthly safety meetings.
- Serve as a member of safety committees and/or investigation teams as needed.
- Maintain, troubleshoot and repair:
- Reciprocating engines and associated components.
- Turbine engines and mechanical components.
- Reciprocating compressors and associated components.
- Centrifugal pumps and associated equipment.
- Rotary screw compressors and associated equipment.
- Reciprocating pumps and associated equipment.
- Electric motors.
- Properly install mechanical seals associated with centrifugal equipment.
- Maintain and repair all other mechanical process or platform equipment not specifically noted above.
- Participate in the planning of jobs related to mechanical equipment. This will include maintenance, repair and replacement of mechanical equipment.
- Interact with vendors when necessary to troubleshoot and maintain equipment.
- Interact with supervision, engineering and management when required.
- Provide training and technical support as required.
Required Skills, Experience, and Education:
- High School diploma, or G.E.D. equivalent, is required.
- Graduation from a technical trade school and/or completion of an apprenticeship, certification or associate degree program is preferred.
- 3+ years of mechanical experience is required, preferably in energy related industry.
- General knowledge of USCG/BSEE/DOT regulations is preferred.
- A strong commitment to personal and job safety is required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with basic troubleshooting and maintenance skills is required.
- Willingness to improve on troubleshooting and maintenance skills is required.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in and around industrial and electrical equipment is required.
- Ability to work in temperature extremes due to weather conditions and operating equipment is required.
- Ability to use physical force to lift, push, pull and hold equipment and tools is required
- Ability to climb and work at various heights and work in a standing, sitting, lying down, crouched or kneeling position is required.
- Ability to regularly bend, stoop, move from ground level to higher levels, raise/lift from ground level and lift up to 50 lbs, manually transport a load up to 75 lbs, apply up to 100 foot pounds of torque is required.
- Ability to travel in helicopters to offshore platforms and work a 14/14 schedule is required.
