We are seeking an Engineer, Application I in Harlan, IA to support our Product Platforms and Engineering team by providing detailed sales and system application support. This role provides guidance to Sales and internal Engineering teams on product design to meet customer needs and is directly involved in customized solution development, including design proposals, solution verification, and drawing preparation.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive and review design specifications with Sales and/or customers regarding product requirements versus capabilities

• Prepare detailed drawings, layouts, and schematics using Solid Works and Auto CAD/Drafts Sight

• Analyze product specifications and performance requirements to develop manufacturable designs

• Support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and corrective action initiatives

• Collaborate with Sales, Manufacturing, and Quality on design reviews and solutions

• Provide engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor and assist with commissioning activities

• Interpret regulatory codes such as UL, NEC, and NFPA

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology, plus 35 years of related experience, or equivalent combination

• Proficiency in Auto CAD (2018 or newer) and Solid Works

• Understanding of mobile electrification systems for industrial/commercial use

• Strong communication skills to effectively document and discuss technical requirements

The Application Engineering role shall support the Product Platforms and Engineering team by providing detailed sales and system application support. An individual in this role is expected to provide guidance and direction to the Sales team and internal Engineering team members concerning product design to meet a customers needs. The role is directly involved in product design for customized solutions, including design proposals for quotations, solution verification, and drafts / drawing proposals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include

• Receives design specification input from Engineered Product Specialists and reviews with Sales and/or customers about product requirements versus our capabilities.

• Prepares detailed component, product, and/or layout and detailed drawings and schematics using Solid Works and Auto CAD / Drafts Sight.

• Processes Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) for the product line(s).

• Analyzes product or equipment specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.

• Reviews challenges and problems with Engineering personnel. Works to find solutions to meet the customers requirements.

• Locates design and application files related to the required design(s), and makes design modifications, as appropriate.

• Conducts design review meetings with sales, manufacturing, and quality assurance personnel, for special engineered products.

• Initiates and writes Test Requests, analyzes results, and takes appropriate action.

• Over time, develops an expert-level understanding of assigned products.

• Provides engineering support to the manufacturing shop floor as required.

• Corrects any errors/omissions that occur in an expeditious manner and looks for ways to reduce/eliminate reoccurring errors.

• Supports corrective action investigation, analysis, and permanent corrective action implementation.

• Performs on-site inspections and supports commissioning activities.

• Understands and interprets regulatory codes such as UL, NEC and NFPA.

Supervisory and Leadership Responsibilities

• This role has no supervisory responsibilities, anyone in this role is expected to provide guidance and leadership to team members in Designer roles.

Qualified candidates will possess the following

• Associate degree (A.S.) in Mechanical Design, Electrical Design, or Engineering Technology and three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Proficient knowledge of Auto CAD 2018 or newer and Solid Works are required.

• Sound understanding of mobile electrification systems for industrial and/or commercial use is required.

• Ability to communicate and effectively document conversations with Sales and/or Customers concerning applications and technical requirements.
