Rex Vascular is in search of a highly capable Medical Assistant to bolster our support for both providers and patients. This full-time position requires 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 7:15 am to 5:00 pm, with no night, weekend, or holiday shifts. Situated in Raleigh, our office caters to cardiovascular patients within a physician practice setting. The Medical Assistant II, Certified provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other healthcare team members in a fast-paced, energetic ambulatory cardiovascular practice. This role is an integral part of the care team, helping deliver exceptional patient experiences while supporting high-quality patient care. Works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor.

This position qualifies for a $7500 commitment incentive.

Responsibilities

  • Performs rooming and/or intake process, collecting patient data, including vital signs, height, weight, and information related to the patient's reason for visit.
  • Collects patient and family data, including medical and social history. Reviews patient's current medication list, allergies, and preferred pharmacy.
  • Assists the provider as directed during treatments, examinations, and procedures. Administers medications under the direction of a provider.
  • Performs diagnostic testing, including EKGs and placement of cardiac monitors, under the direction of a provider.
  • Reviews the patient record to determine whether the patient requires routine health screenings and preventive care measures.
  • Ensures exam/procedure rooms contain appropriate supplies, equipment, forms, and educational materials and are ready for patient visits and procedures.
  • Provides patients with after-visit, follow-up, self-care, or procedural instructions and educational materials as directed.
  • Prepares, cleans, stocks, and maintains exam and treatment rooms.
  • Assists with patient registration, check-in/check-out, appointment scheduling, referrals, and coordination of tests and treatments.
  • Answers clinic telephone calls and assists with in-basket management under the direction of a provider or nurse. Assists in emergency situations as directed by a provider or nurse.

Additional responsibilities of a Certified Medical Assistant II may include:

  • Precepting new medical assistant hires and medical assistant externs.
  • Training medical assistants on clinic workflows and procedures.
  • Assisting providers with preventive health initiatives for a panel of patients.
  • Performing clinic-based quality and safety functions (e.g., safety coordinator, registry management, audits, quality initiatives).
  • Managing clinic supply ordering and inventory.

* Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
* Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).
* Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
* Possess at least one year of full-time experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified.
* Demonstrate possession of the competencies outlined in the Medical Assistant, Certified Advancement Worksheet through their application and interview.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
* Ability to perform the essential functions of the position as outlined above.
* Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Demonstrated ability to engage positively with patients and families and to work as a team with staff and providers.
* Ability to use a computer to document required information into the electronic medical record.
