What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a Senior Equipment Engineer for Manufacturing to support qualification, maintenance, and uptime of solar manufacturing equipment at massive scale. You will help deploy 100GW of solar manufacturing from raw materials on American soil before the end of 2028. This role is core to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. Tesla is a demanding and fast-paced environment where you will work with a highly motivated team on extremely challenging projects.
What You'll Do
- During launch of this greenfield facility, you will assist with Functional Testing, Equipment and Product Testing, LOTO reviews and safety sign offs, and work instruction development
- Execute and track preventive maintenance schedules
- Respond to unplanned equipment downtime events, performing troubleshooting and coordinating repair to minimize MTTR, MTBF
- Maintain equipment documentation including PMs, calibration records, spare parts lists, and FMEA updates
- Monitor equipment performance metrics including MTBF, MTTR, and escalate chronic issues
- Partner with process engineers on RCA of chronic tool issues
- Manage spare parts inventory for equipment components to ensure availability
- Support vendor coordination for equipment repairs, upgrades, and field service activities
- Contribute to equipment improvement projects targeting uptime
- Document equipment issues, corrective actions, and best practices to build the engineering knowledge base
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of equipment engineering experience in semiconductor ingot, wafer or cell manufacturing
- Hands-on experience with some of the following processes: Czochralski crystal pulling, diamond wire saw slicing, texturing, wafer cleaning, thin film deposition, screen printing, and laser operations
- Familiarity with qualification methodologies and equipment acceptance testing
- Understanding of PM program development and FMEA for manufacturing equipment
- Experience tracking equipment reliability metrics including MTBF, MTTR
- Experience managing spare parts inventories and coordinating with equipment vendors
- Proficiency in data analysis tools for equipment performance monitoring
- Capability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally. Travel will vary based on launch timing. More frequently during build, less during HVM and sustaining
