The Senior Director, Chief of Staff (CoS) to the Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer (CLO) serves as a trusted advisor, strategic partner, and force multiplier for the CLO and the broader CLO Organization, which includes Legal, Compliance, Government Affairs & Public Policy, and Patient Advocacy. This role sits at the center of strategy and execution, enabling the CLO to operate more effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The CoS will help shape priorities, drive alignment, and ensure that critical initiatives translate into measurable outcomes. This role will help advance the CLO Organization's use of technology and AI, partnering with relevant teams and leaders to identify, pilot, and scale tools that simplify work, improve productivity, and enable higher-impact outcomes.

Operating in a fast-paced and highly visible environment, the CoS will balance long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands. You will play a central role in ensuring that priorities translate into action and results across the organization.

This role is part of the Office of the CLO, reports directly to the CLO, and may have managerial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Advisory & Executive Enablement

  • Partner closely with the CLO as a trusted advisor to shape, prioritize, and advance the CLO Organization's most critical initiatives, including key executive committee initiatives

  • Amplify the CLO's effectiveness by anticipating needs, synthesizing information, and ensuring the CLO's time is leveraged for the highest-impact activities

  • Ensure the CLO is well-prepared for key engagements, decisions, and stakeholder interactions

  • Support the CLO's engagement with key external stakeholders, including patient advocacy, external affairs, and board engagements

  • Build strong cross-functional relationships to amplify the CLO's influence across the enterprise, including partnering with other chiefs of staff and the Office of the CEO

  • Prepare executive-level materials including board content, strategic briefings, and leadership communications

Driving Execution & Organizational Impact

  • Maintain strong engagement with the CLO Org Leadership Team to ensure leadership team members are aligned and focused on the right priorities

  • Monitor progress against key initiatives, track decisions and action items, and follow through to completion

  • Ensure clear communication and accountability across the organization, identify risks to key deliverables, surface issues early, and work to remove roadblocks or manage risks where needed

  • Continuously look for ways to simplify processes and work with the CLO to ensure the CLO LT and teams can execute on the highest-value work

  • Foster accountability and collaboration across the CLO Org Leadership Team, helping to improve outcomes

Leading Operating Rhythm & Alignment

  • Own the operating cadence for the CLO Org Leadership Team, including routine meetings and offsites

  • Develop agendas and meeting materials, capture key decisions, and ensure effective follow-up

  • Reinforce alignment around priorities, ensuring leadership focus remains on the most impactful work

  • Create visibility into progress, decisions, and trade-offs to support effective decision-making

Enabling Organizational Operations

  • Partner with the CLO, Legal Operations, and Finance to manage the department budget, including ongoing tracking and proactive adjustments as priorities evolve

  • Collaborate with the CLO's Executive Assistant to align the CLO's calendar and engagement planning with strategic priorities

  • Collaborate with the CLO's Executive Assistant to develop and execute department-wide initiatives, including town halls, summits, training programs, and engagement efforts

  • Lead development of CLO Org communications to ensure clarity, consistency, and alignment across messaging

  • Drive progress on AI and technology-enabled transformation across the CLO Organization, ensuring initiatives are aligned to priorities, effectively executed, and translated into tangible business impact

  • Work with the CLO, HRBP, and leadership team to support talent strategy, including hiring, onboarding, development, organizational design, and headcount planning, while advancing DEIB priorities

  • Strong business acumen, ideally within life sciences or healthcare

  • Excellent executive communication skills (written, verbal, and visual)

  • High level of organizational and political agility with a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset

  • Experience developing board-level materials and communications

  • Strong technology and digital fluency, with the ability to identify and advance opportunities to leverage AI, automation, and data to improve service delivery and team effectiveness

  • Experience driving adoption of new tools and technologies, including piloting solutions, scaling successful use cases, and embedding change across teams

  • Working understanding of AI governance, risk considerations, and responsible use principles, with the ability to balance innovation and compliance

  • Unquestioned integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to inclusion and trust

  • Comfort operating in ambiguous, fast-moving environments

  • Working knowledge of Jazz and its corporate strategy

  • Strong ownership mindset and appetite for continuous growth

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 10+ years of experience in progressively senior roles across management consulting, strategy, business operations, or similarly rigorous environments

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (travel may be significant at times)

  • Based in the United States

Preferred

  • MBA or JD preferred

  • Experience within a complex, multi-divisional biopharma or healthcare organization

  • Exposure to C-suite advising, board engagement, or executive-level decision support

Jazz Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices and we strive to provide employees with total compensation packages that are market competitive. For this role, the full and complete base pay range is: $0.00 - $336,000.00

Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, and other pertinent factors. The goal is to ensure fair and competitive compensation aligned with the candidate's expertise and contributions, within the established pay framework and our Total Compensation philosophy. Internal equity considerations will also influence individual base pay decisions. This range will be reviewed on a regular basis.

At Jazz, your base pay is only one part of your total compensation package. The successful candidate may also be eligible for a discretionary annual cash bonus or incentive compensation (depending on the role), in accordance with the terms of the Company's Global Cash Bonus Plan or Incentive Compensation Plan, as well as discretionary equity grants in accordance with Jazz's Long Term Equity Incentive Plan.
