At AES, we are seeking an Engineer or Senior Engineer to join our Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Standards Team. In this role, you will contribute to the development and continuous improvement of engineering, design, construction, and equipment standards that support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of AES Indiana and AES Ohio.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and support engineering standards related to transmission, distribution, and substation systems.

  • Provide technical guidance to engineering, construction, and field services teams to ensure designs meet safety, quality, reliability, and project objectives.

  • Contribute to the development of equipment specifications, design guides, and construction standards for electrical systems ranging from 12 kV to 345 kV.

  • Support one or more technical disciplines based on your experience, interests, and business needs, including: Overhead Distribution, Underground Distribution, Transmission Line Design, and Substation Equipment.

  • Evaluate emerging technologies, industry best practices, and lessons learned to improve standards and design methodologies.

  • Participate in site visits, equipment investigations, and incident reviews to identify root causes and drive continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Partner with teams across AES Ohio and AES Indiana to align work practices and standardize engineering approaches where appropriate.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders from engineering, operations, construction, safety, and maintenance to develop practical and effective solutions.

  • Balance technical requirements with considerations such as safety, cost, constructability, schedule, operational performance, and long-term asset management.

  • Develop, review, and update construction standards and engineering drawings in partnership with drafting and design teams.

  • Research, interpret, and apply technical documentation, industry standards, and manufacturer information to support sound engineering decisions.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program or an equivalent accredited engineering program.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to analyze and apply technical documentation, including manufacturer specifications, industry publications, and standards such as IEEE and ANSI.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Word.

  • For Senior Engineer-Minimum three (3) years of experience in engineering, design, construction, or related technical work involving transmission, distribution, and/or substation systems.

  • For Engineer-Minimum one (1) year of practical experience in engineering, design, construction, or related technical work involving transmission, distribution, and/or substation systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply technical expertise to solve complex engineering challenges and contribute to standards development.

Additional Considerations

  • A Master's degree in Engineering is a plus.

  • Knowledge of electric utility systems, power system design, or utility construction practices is beneficial.

  • Candidates with relevant internship, co-op, academic, military, project-based, or professional experience are encouraged to apply.
