Requirements



  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 2 years of municipal combination inspection experience involving residential, commercial, or industrial properties
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License (or ability to obtain)
  • International Code Council (ICC) Building Inspector Certification required
  • ICC Combination Dwelling Inspector Certificate or equivalent certifications in plumbing, mechanical, and electrical inspection required
  • Thorough knowledge of building, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, zoning, and health codes
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and problem-solving abilities
  • Proficiency with computers and applicable software programs
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments, including active construction sites


Job Duties



  • Inspect residential, commercial, and industrial construction projects for compliance with building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical codes
  • Conduct inspections throughout all phases of construction, from excavation through final completion
  • Inspect foundations, framing, concrete, HVAC, plumbing, electrical systems, and structural components
  • Verify compliance with approved plans, specifications, permits, and applicable regulations
  • Inspect swimming pools, structural installations, and electrical bonding requirements
  • Investigate complaints and inspect existing structures for hazardous or illegal conditions
  • Issue correction notices, stop-work orders, and written inspection reports as needed
  • Assist contractors, property owners, and the public by providing guidance on code requirements and permitting
  • Verify contractor licensing and permit compliance on job sites
  • Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
