What to Expect
The Off-Board Charging team is seeking a system integration engineer with 3+ years of industry experience specializing in firmware and software integration for EVSE products from prototype through production. This role will primarily focus on integrating, debugging, and validating firmware and controls across legacy and next-generation power converter platforms for Tesla's charging systems. You will serve as a technical anchor for system integration, driving cross-functional decision-making that bridges firmware, controls, and hardware. The role demands hands-on judgment to translate complex system interactions into clear validation plans and test strategies. You will develop and execute test plans, lead control validation and system testing, debug firmware and software issues on complex high-voltage charging products, and support hardware integration (~30% of work) including board bring-up and bench debug. You willpartnerwith electrical, firmware, mechanical, test, manufacturing, and quality teams from prototype through field deployment.
What You'll Do
- Integrate, test, and validate firmware and controls across prototype, pilot, and production phases for EVSE and power converter platforms
- Lead controlsvalidation and system testing; develop and execute test plans for functions, features, and system performance-aligning milestones to program timelines
- Debug and triage firmware and software integration issues; identify root cause and help implement and validate hardware/firmware mitigations with design owners
- Support hardware integration as needed (~30%)-including board bring-up, bench debug, and HW/FW boundary triage on high-power, high-voltage products
- Conduct failure analysis on issues from lab testing and field deployment; drive corrective actions with cross-functional teams
- Work with electrical, firmware, mechanical, test, reliability, and manufacturing teams to meet functional, performance, and safety requirements
- Drive continuous improvement by providing direct, accurate feedback to firmware, controls, and hardware design owners
What You'll Bring
- Strong foundation in firmware and software fundamentals with ability to bridge embedded firmware architecture, control systems, and hardware behavior during integration and debug
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years experience in firmware/software integration and/or electronic hardware integration in product development
- Strong understanding of embedded firmware design and testing, system testing methodologies, and test plan development for mechatronic systems
- Strong knowledge of one or more areas among power electronics topologies (AC/DC, DC/DC, DC/AC),EVSEstandards, thermal design and control, embedded controls, and high-voltage system behavior; ability to integrate across these domains is paramount
- In-depth understanding of HV power electronic components (active and passive) and associated characterization/validation testing methods
- Python test script development; ability to read and comprehend C/C++
- Proficiency with EE lab equipment (oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, CAN tools) for integration debug and troubleshooting
- Experience with inverters, batteries, controls, or industrial grid codes, preferred
- Testing/calibration experience in vehicle or EVSE fields, preferred
