Job Summary

The Flight Operations Technical Writer plays a critical role in ensuring the development of clear, concise, and accurate documentation. While the primary focus is within Flight Operations, this role also supports cross-functional areas including Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Production.

This position involves gathering, analyzing, and translating complex technical and operational information into user-friendly materials that align with both company standards and industry requirements. The Technical Writer ensures that all documentation effectively supports safe, efficient, and compliant operations while remaining accessible to a wide range of stakeholders.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Create, review, and maintain technical documentation such as user manuals, reports, Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), and other related materials. Translate complex engineering and technical concepts into clear, concise, and understandable documentations for a variety of audiences.
  • Conduct interviews, observations, and workflow reviews to accurately capture real-world processes
  • Collect and analyze technical and operational information from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) across Flight Operations, Quality Assurance, Engineering, and Production
  • Maintain content directory for documentation, ensuring version control, accessibility, and regular updates to keep documentation accurate and current
  • Regularly review and update documentation to reflect operational changes and lessons learned
  • Observe flight operations activities to validate accuracy and usability of procedures
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, or inefficiencies in existing documentation and workflows and update accordingly
  • Ensure that written materials are grammatically correct and maintain a consistent tone or voice
  • Identify and implement best practices to streamline documentation processes and improve efficiency and usability
  • Seek feedback from flight operations personnel and stakeholders to refine and improve documentation quality
  • Perform other duties as required

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, Communications, or related field
  • 2-5 years of technical writing experience, preferably in aviation, UAS, engineering, or operational environment
  • Excellent written, editing, and oral communication skills (example writing will be requested from candidates)
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and independently (self-starter)
  • Ability and willingness to work under tight deadlines and support pursuits concurrently
  • Basic understanding of engineering, quality assurance, and flight operation concepts
  • Ability to synthesize complex technical concepts into clear, actionable content

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent computer skills and proficiency using MS Office Suite (PowerPoint, SharePoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience with Unmanned Flight Operations and/or Aviation
  • Ability to obtain or currently possess and maintain a DoD Secret level security clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working on documentation
