THE POSITION

Are you ready to join the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) as an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist and help protect communities across Pennsylvania? In this role, you will become part of the team that ensures oil and gas operations follow critical environmental rules that safeguard public health. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position helps ensure compliance with environmental rules by reviewing cases, tracking investigations, and preparing enforcement actions for the oil and gas program. As an Environmental Protection Compliance Specialist, you will perform the following duties:
- Compliance Assistance: Educate operators and staff on environmental rules and program policies
- Enforcement Preparation: Review case files and prepare formal documents such as violation notices and orders
- Case Coordination: Discuss enforcement matters with legal staff and help prepare case information
- Training Support: Provide guidance to staff on enforcement procedures and proper use of compliance tools
- Application Review: Evaluate well transfer and related permit applications for accuracy and completeness
- Investigation Tracking: Monitor water supply, gas migration, and spill related cases and follow up as needed

- Full-time employment
- Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Meadville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of professional experience as a Sanitarian, Air Quality Specialist, Solid Waste Specialist, or Water Quality Specialist (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which affords the applicant the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Special Requirements:
- This position requires possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
