The Specialty Sonographer 3 serves as a clinical expert who provides highlevel specialty ultrasound services, leads quality and performanceimprovement initiatives, and supports departmental operations. This role exercises independent judgment, mentors staff, and acts as a key resource for complex imaging and workflow needs.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs complex and advanced specialty exams, and Intra op ultrasound guided procedures, venous insufficiency studies, AV optimization.
- Identifies and manages clinical or emergent problems that may impact exam outcomes, ensuring patient safety and optimal diagnostic quality.
- Participated in some healthcare related community engagement event.
- Provides expert patient communication, ensuring understanding, comfort, and cooperation during procedures.
- Oversees proper use of EMR workflows, patient tracking, and documentation accuracy.
- Manages highlevel disinfection processes, including maintaining glutaraldehyde or hydrogen peroxide systems and associated logs.
- Ensures proper cleaning, maintenance, and safe operation of all ultrasound equipment; coordinates repairs, replacements, and inventory needs with Biomedical Engineering, IT, and vendors.
- Leads performanceimprovement initiatives, qualityassurance activities, and compliancerelated documentation.
- Supports policy and procedure development, review, and implementation.
- Provides training, orientation, and ongoing mentorship to technologists, students, nurses, fellows, and other team members.
- Serves as a clinical resource for complex anatomy, pathology, physiology, and advanced ultrasound techniques.
- Uses advanced analytical skills to determine optimal imaging strategies, additional modalities, and appropriate image selection for physician interpretation.
- Assists with research protocols and ensures adherence to standardized imaging requirements.
- Oversees team performance in assigned functional areas, addressing workflow challenges and escalating issues when necessary.
- Fulfills and maintains Career Ladder requirements as described by the Inova Sonography Career Ladder Program
- Performs additional duties as assigned.

Certification -@@##BLS from the American Heart Association required upon startCandidates must possess one of the following credentials upon start:@@##American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) RT(S)##American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) with at least two sonography specialties (e.g., OB/GYN, Breast, Abdomen)##Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT), Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS), or Vascular Sonographer (VS)Licensure - None requiredExperience - 5 years of experience in a hospital/healthcare environment in the performance of Specialized Diagnostic Medical SonographyEducation - Graduate of an accredited school of Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
