Job Summary The Traveling Crew Lead leads structured cabling and fiber installations for large-scale commercial and data center projects. This hands-on role oversees field crews while performing fiber installation, termination, splicing, testing, and troubleshooting. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and a commitment to safety, quality, and project requirements. Job Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate field crews to complete large-scale structured cabling and data center projects safely and efficiently.
Perform cable infrastructure and fiber rough-in installations.
Install, dress, route, manage, and label cabling according to project specifications.
Perform copper and fiber termination.
Perform ribbon and fusion fiber splicing using appropriate splicing equipment.
Install and configure single-mode and multimode fiber and various fiber connector types, including ST, LC, SC, and SC-APC.
Perform fiber testing using Fluke and OTDR testing equipment.
Troubleshoot fiber, cabling, and infrastructure installations.
Rack and stack customer equipment.
Build out server racks according to rack elevations and project documentation.
Install fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, cabinets, cable management systems, and related infrastructure.
Support material receiving and hardware assembly.
Perform Outside Plant (OSP) installations, including routing fiber into data center facilities.
Perform quality control inspections of fiber and infrastructure installations.
Read, interpret, and follow blueprints, specifications, and other project documents.
Coordinate work with project leadership and onsite stakeholders.
Conduct safety meetings and reinforce established safety procedures.
Ensure crews use required PPE, maintain clean work areas, and comply with OSHA and jobsite safety requirements.
Determine material requirements and coordinate material orders as needed.
Assist with labor forecasting and workforce planning.
Identify blueprint or scope changes and submit change information to project management.
Maintain accurate project documentation and communicate progress, issues, and changes to project leadership.
Maintain professional communication with team members, management, and project stakeholders.
Job Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of data center technician experience.
Minimum of 5 years of fiber experience.
Minimum of 3 years of telecommunications or related technical field experience.
Minimum of 6 months of supervisory or managerial experience.
Experience leading crews of approximately 5-15 team members.
Strong structured cabling, fiber, copper, and data center infrastructure experience.
Experience with fiber termination, ribbon splicing, and fusion splicing.
Ability to perform fiber testing and troubleshooting using appropriate testing equipment.
Ability to interpret blueprints, specifications, rack elevations, reporting requirements, and quality standards.
Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
Experience with cable management, fiber trays, ladder racks, power trays, racks, cabinets, and related infrastructure.
Ability to perform quality control inspections and resolve installation deficiencies.
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
OSHA 10 certification required.
Must meet applicable minimum driving standards.
Must successfully complete a background check and drug screening.
Must be able to work on ladders and scissor lifts and in confined spaces.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
Must be able to stand and work on feet for the duration of the shift.
Must possess and effectively use required basic hand tools, including a multi-bit screwdriver, tape measure, snips, needle-nose pliers, channel-lock pliers, punch-down tool, flashlight, gloves, tool pouch, and steel-toe or composite-toe work boots.

Extensive travel is required.
Must be available to remain onsite for approximately 4-6 weeks at a time.

Approximately 50-60 hours per week may be required depending on site demands.
Must be available to work the full project schedule.
Extended onsite assignments may include a long weekend home, typically Friday through Sunday, with return to the project site by Monday.
Schedule, travel duration, and work hours may vary based on project requirements.
