Operations Supervisor - Overnights

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc
sick time
United States, Maryland, Glen Burnie
Aug 24, 2026

At IDEXX, an Operations Supervisor in our Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is first and foremost a people leader. You'll coach, develop, and grow a team of laboratory technicians at one of the world's largest veterinary diagnostic reference labs - building their skills, their confidence, and their careers. You'll also stay close to the work as an individual contributor, which keeps you credible with your team and sharp on the details. We're looking for someone who leads with professionalism and genuine care for people, and who picks up new tools, processes, and industry knowledge quickly - lab experience is a plus, not a requirement.

(This is a full-time role with excellent day-one benefits.)

Why this role matters:

IDEXX reference laboratories is a global network united by a shared commitment to enhancing pet care where the true strength in our name is the people behind it, including this role. Our reference laboratories make it possible for our customers to discover more with our unrelenting commitment to innovation, personalized support, guidance, and expertise, while providing the most complete and advanced menu of diagnostic tests along with technology and tools. The focus on enhancing the lives of people and pets, starts with our own employees and empowering them to achieve their goals, focusing on continuous improvement, and supporting the strong collaboration and inclusiveness that exist in our team.

In this Role:
  • You will lead people first: coaching and developing a team of Laboratory Technicians, helping them grow their skills and reach their career goals.

  • You will build and sustain a positive, high-performing team culture - one that runs on trust, accountability, and teamwork.

  • You will manage the business of the lab: staffing, scheduling, workflow, inventory and performance metrics.

  • You will solve problems every day - from workflow bottlenecks to turnaround-time challenges - and adapt your approach as conditions change.

  • You will spend about 40% of your time on the bench, supporting workflow and facilitation on the lab floor.

What You Will Need to Succeed:

Leadership & Professionalism

  • You've directly supervised, led, or mentored a team (5+ people) in a fast-paced or high-volume environment - in any industry.

  • You communicate clearly, give and receive feedback well, and handle difficult conversations with composure and respect.

  • You lead by example: reliable, accountable, and consistent, even under pressure.

  • You genuinely enjoy developing people and take pride in their growth and success.

Learning Agility

  • You pick up new systems, tools, and processes quickly, and you're comfortable being a beginner again.

  • You seek out feedback, apply it in real time, and adjust your approach rather than defaulting to "the way it's always been done."

  • You stay curious and calm when priorities shift or the plan changes.

  • Prior laboratory or veterinary/clinical experience is a plus but is not required - we'll train the technical side.

Experience & Practical Requirements

  • Operations or team leadership experience from any industry (retail, hospitality, healthcare, food service, military, etc.) is required.

  • Knowledge of laboratory or human/veterinary clinical testing is a plus, not a prerequisite.

  • Able to meet the physical requirements of working in a lab: standing/sitting for extended periods, extended reach, lifting to 50 lbs, and close/color/depth vision. Potential exposure to biohazards and hazardous chemicals, consistent with lab safety protocols.

What You Can Expect From Us:
  • Salary targeting$90,000.00 annually, with some flexibility depending on years and depth of experience.

  • Opportunity for annual cash bonus

  • Opportunity for performance-based annual merit increase

  • Health/Dental Benefits Day - One

  • Paid sick time, and paid vacation time

  • Additional benefits include, but are not limited to financial support, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, and much more!

Schedule:
  • This is a full time (40 hour/week), night-shift position with scheduled shifts Monday - Friday, 11:00 pm-7:30am. There is a Saturday rotation with the same hours.

  • The shifts and hours may vary depending on business needs

  • Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position

  • Adherence to attendance-related policies and expectations is critical to this position
