Internship, Software Engineer, Automated Diagnostics Intern (Spring 2027)

This position is expected to begin January 2027 and continue through April 2027. Internships at Tesla are generally full-time, onsite roles that last a minimum of 12 weeks.

International Students: If your work authorization is via CPT, consult your school regarding your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week onsite. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

Service Engineering sits at the unique intersection of firmware/hardware design, service, diagnostics, manufacturing, quality, and reliability. Our mission is to ensure every vehicle, Robotaxi, and Optimus is diagnosed accurately, reliably, and as quickly as possible, with feedback loops that continuously improve diagnostics and reduce the need for service visits.We areseeking an intern that is passionate about the product, a strong critical thinker, and capable of understanding technical system-level architecture and issues.

AutomatedDiagnostics Team: Committed to building out the capabilities for quickly and accurately diagnosing vehicle issues remotely with limited customer interaction. Our team owns the entire customer experience, from the entry point in the Tesla App to the providing solutions for self-service through AI assisted interfaces or automating service appointments when a repair is necessary through remote diagnosis.

• Strong proficiency inPython or Golang
• Deep experience inAPI Development
• Solid understanding ofDistributed Systemsprinciples and architectures
• Hands-on experience withApplied Machine Learning(model deployment, inference pipelines, or ML system integration)
• Backend development expertise with production-grade services
• Knowledge ofevent-driven systems(e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar)
• Proficiency with databases (SQL and NoSQL)
• Strong background inobservability(monitoring, logging, tracing)
• Genuine interest incustomer experienceand building high-impact, user-facing systems
• Excellent critical thinking, problem solving, and communication skills
• A passion for troubleshooting failures, improving code quality, and optimizing system efficiency, monitoring, and observability
