Orrick currently has an excellent opportunity for a Business Development Manager, Energy & Infrastructure based in any of our U.S. offices. The Objective: The Business Development Manager, Energy & Infrastructure, is a strategic, partner-facing leader who plays a pivotal role in driving revenue growth by leading strategic marketing and business development efforts in the Energy and Infrastructure markets. Working closely with the E&I BD Associate Director, partners, practice leaders and the broader BD team, the Manager will execute strategic, sector-focused initiatives that translate the firm's capabilities into high-value transactional work and projects across the energy and infrastructure sectors, including energy, natural resources, oil and gas, infrastructure and related project development and finance, M&A and other strategic and emerging sectors. What Will I do? The manager drives the full business development cycle, from market intelligence and client targeting to cross-selling, pitches, proposals, RFPs, thought leadership, events and market positioning. With a commercially focused, collaborative and client-service-oriented approach, the manager delivers persuasive materials, actionable insights and coordinated execution that strengthens relationships, advances sector priority opportunities and elevates the firm's profile in the market.
Responsibilities
- Strategic Business Development & Client Targeting: Partner with E&I leaders and attorneys to develop and execute client development plans; use market intelligence, industry trends, data analytics and competitive intelligence to prioritize targets, identify cross-selling opportunities across practices and offices, track competitor activity and translate insights into actionable growth strategies.
- Pitches, Proposals & RFPs: Serve as BD lead in developing persuasive pitch strategies, proposals, presentations, RFP responses and complex/panel RFPs from intake through submission tailored to client needs and the firm's sector capabilities and working in collaboration with the Pitch team; and coordinate with lead lawyers on pitch meetings, including leading briefing, rehearsal, follow-up and debrief activities.
- Thought Leadership & Market Positioning: Shape and communicate sector-focused value propositions and market narratives in collaboration with Communications and BD colleagues; identify and coordinate opportunities for thought leadership, profile raising and other market-facing initiatives; maintain sector content and a library of key data points, market metrics and representative matters to support pitches, presentations and broader market positioning; and work closely with the Research team to share market intelligence and identify revenue growth opportunities.
- Events, Sponsorships & Industry Engagement: Plan and support client events, conferences and sponsorships in collaboration with Events team and support CLEs; evaluate sponsorship ROI, coordinate lawyer speaker opportunities and event materials, prepare lawyers for priority engagements and conduct timely follow-up to convert connections into opportunities and capture ROI.
- Experience & Knowledge Management: Maintain accurate, current experience database entries, matter lists, contact lists, client information and opportunity tracking; manage the CRM system; and apply rigorous quality control and share relevant information across teams to support pitches, targeting, cross-selling and practice development.
- Rankings, Awards & Directories: Lead preparation, coordination and submission of entries for industry rankings, awards, surveys, league tables and legal directories, ensuring compelling, accurate and timely submissions.
- Team Collaboration & Special Projects: Lead special projects from conception through completion; mentor junior team members, support onboarding and integration of lateral hires and collaborate with other BD, Pitch, Communications, Research, Events and practice teams to facilitate cross-practice information sharing and execution.
Qualifications
- Experience: 6+ years of marketing or business development experience, preferably in legal or professional services supporting energy, infrastructure, project finance or related practices.
- Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with energy and infrastructure markets, project development or government contracting preferred; enthusiasm to develop deep sector expertise required.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to anticipate needs, identify opportunities, and drive initiatives to completion. Superb judgment with a strategic mindset to guide the organization toward its goals.
- Project Management: Exceptional ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
- Communication: Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including the ability to present complex information clearly and persuasively to clients, executives and team members. Strong copywriting and editing skills; familiarity with digital publishing and content creation a plus.
- Problem Solving & Risk Management: Outstanding ability to analyze complex workstreams, identify project risks and develop efficient mitigation strategies.
- Process Improvement: Proven track record of developing and implementing strategic processes to streamline operations and maximize the impact of BD initiatives.

- Systems & Tools: Experience with CRM systems (e.g., InterAction, Salesforce) and experience management databases (e.g., Foundation) preferred; familiarity with market research tools a plus.

Compensation and Benefits The expected salary range for this position is:
- New York City, Silicon Valley, and San Francisco $154,000 - $180,000
- Washington DC, Los Angeles, Orange County, Santa Monica, Sacramento, Boston, and Seattle $139,000 - $167,000
- All Other US Locations $129,000 - $160,000

The level of pay within the range will depend on a variety of job-related factors that may include, but not limited to, qualifications, relevant experience or education, particular skills or expertise, geography.
